Flurries are furiously flying as I type this on our first snow day of the school year! Yes...winter decided to arrive on the last day of February here in the Capital Region of New York State. And most of us don't mind at all....
I'm cozy in my home this mid-afternoon (Thursday) as I type this.....
This is a time to reflect back on the week and post about five of our favorite moments, things, quotes, foods...whatever blessed you. Sometimes it's the simple things and other times it's major happenings. Either way...join in with Susanne, our host, and others over at Living to Tell the Story!
MY FIVE FAVES
Courtney at the Met in NYC on an Art Trip with Gordon College |
- VISITING MY OLDEST! A good friend of mine and her son had interviews last Friday, during our Winter Recess, at Gordon College where my oldest gal is a freshman. Claire and I traveled with them to visit Courtney! It was so much fun showing them the campus and spending time with Courtney while they did their interviews, seminars, etc. We all went out to dinner that evening and Courtney was so happy to eat off campus! It made for a LONG day trip (it's about 4 hours each way) but it was so much fun! All of Courtney's friends had a blast meeting the lil sis, too!
- JUNK FOOD! I rarely eat chips. I gave up eating those a LONG time ago. I tend to buy those veggie stick chip things which I also just stopped buying due to the ridiculous price and the fact that if I'm gonna eat veggie sticks, they are going to be REAL ones. LOL. seriously, we just don't do chips in our house. Claire prefers thin pretzel sticks and rarely eats those, and Courtney, away at college, does like chips from time to time. However. I saw these with a "NEW CHIP" sign at the local grocery store and since they were on sale, I said "sure!". OMGOODNESS!!! They are AMAZINGLY GOOD! It's too bad they are junk food loaded with sodium. There isn't much sugar in them and one serving (10 chips) is only 90 calories of fat but......I won't make a habit of eating these every day. They went well with our sandwiches one evening when we all had to eat a quick dinner and get outta the house....so...I have a bag of chips here and when I crave salt, I'll nibble on 10 of these. LOL (they really are GOOD!)

- ORGANIZING RECIPES! this is something that was long overdue.(by over 10 years!! recipes just kept getting shoved in there!) Since I had extra time (due to the snow day) to do chores that often don't get accomplished until summer, I decided to tackle this recipe box. I totally re-organized it, tossed out several recipes I no longer use, or that we decided weren't keepers due to someone not really liking the dish. I added my own tab tops because the originals were over 20 years old and just getting icky. Doesn't it look much nicer now? and..I discovered a couple of recipes I had completely forgotten about. One dish is on the menu for over the weekend.....so glad to have this task completed!

SERMON ON GENEROSITY! Our pastor has been doing a sermon series entitled Dollars and Sense. I've been struggling with my husband's decision to help our oldest daughter finance her college education. Yes, she has a good academic scholarship and yes we qualified for a little bit of a federal loan. However, we received NO financial aid....I guess the feds say we make too much. Dave didn't want her taking out a loan other than the federal one. So....we've been paying. I just haven't agreed with this. I mean....we both had loans after college! BUT..after our pastor's sermon this past week, the Lord changed my attitude. I am now thinking that yes...this is an act of giving. I am happy we can help her for now. Like my husband says, we will take it one semester at a time. There might come a semester where she has to take out a private bank loan. For now...my attitude, based on the sermon, will be that we are giving generously, above our tithe, to help the blessing that God entrusted us with (our daughter). And that puts everything into a better perspective for me! I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders due to the trust factor. We'll see how it goes!
- AUTO FEATURE! Yup...this is nothing grand but I sure have appreciated using the auto feature on our coffee brewer every morning.. I had stopped this tradition and last Sunday evening I decided I was going to use it again (not sure how we got out of the habit!). Every evening, before I head up to bed, I get the gold filter ready and add the water. Then I just hit "auto" as I have it pre-set to start brewing at 5:50 a.m. It is nice for my husband to get outta the shower and smell the coffee...and nice for me to dash into the shower knowing a cup will be all ready for me when I come down the stairs. This week we are enjoying the aroma of Kona coffee as it was on sale last week! Sometimes it's the simplest things that really help give us a good start to the day!
Do you have any favorite things from this past week that you'd like to share??

A very short but sweet visit with Courtney. Glad you got that opportunity. I find those long times in between seeing my oldest girl really hard. We were blessed with an extra visit last week too.
Oh you hit my weekness. I'll be looking for that flavor at the grocery! I know chips are bad, bad, bad but I love, love, love them. I don't buy them except as a treat because I cannot stop at ten. How do you do that????
Yes, what Susanne said about the chips. Horrible. They look so appealing! (I don't do chips either.)
Sounds like you had a wonderful time with your oldest! Hurray!
Hope you enjoy a fabulous weekend!
Glad you got to see Courtney. Organizing my recipes in on my list of things to do before spring! And I LOVE the auto feature on my coffee maker. Great list of things for the week!
Glad you had a fun visit with Courtney!! I love love LOVE those chips! Gram bought them once and I nearly ate the entire bag!!
I have to organize my (husband's) recipe box but sooooooo lazy. Definately long overdue. Maybe tomorrow since I've been sick; good Saturday project
Have a great weekend!!
I don't eat a lot of chips...but enjoy them when I do. :)
Snow (in this mild winter) is a blessing! Indeed!
I've tried those chips, and I agree they are yummy!
Isn't it wonderful that a change of perspective makes all the difference? I'm glad it made you feel so much better.
Organizing recipes sounds like a lovely chore to do on a snowy day!I bet you found a lot of hidden treasures and good memories along the way! I have been browsing my cook books to find a couple of new recipes and to plan my meals for the next couple of days and I enjoyed that too!
So glad you had a visit with your daughter. I have to wait two more weeks to see mine, and I'm really looking forward to it too!
Have a great weekend!
Any visit of any length with a child is good! The auto coffee sounds like it would be a winner at our house. I'm glad that the sermon changed your heart attitude.
Rediscovering recipes? Definitely a fave :-) Yes, I agree -- many simple things are wonderful gifts.
I love when a sermon speaks directly to my heart, and my needs. Well, they always do, but sometimes, with a jolt, like yours last week. and it's such a wonderful feeling.
How nice that you got a chance to visit Courtney, and that you had a nice week overall.
It was nice to see a little bit of snow, wasn't it? Now I'm ready for Spring. :)
