Well, she did it! A few days ago I posted my thoughts about how to get my 8 year old daughter to feel confident on her bike. She was having trouble putting everything together ever since she fell last summer when we first took off the training wheels. She had trouble with pedaling, steering and keeping her balance. She could do them all but not at the same time. In other words, she hadn't mastered the developmental step of riding a bike!!
Well, this weekend I watched this very determined 8 year old get on her bike and persevere.
And...SHE DID IT. With much encouragement from the sidelines by big sis and mom/dad, she took off and was successful. Everyone was happy. (we are into biking and hiking so.....this is huge for us....now we can take the bikes on some trails!)
While I was busy around the house and checking on the progress of the bike learning, I was reminded in my spirit that we are so often like a child when it comes to learning something new in our spiritual walk. Some of us want to just give up without persevering. Some of us just doggedly move forward without looking around so steer ourselves into trouble some times! Don't know if I can put into words just what the Lord laid on my heart but.....sometimes it seems like we have all the right steps but just can't put it all together!
Keep pressing on comes to my mind first and foremost. The Lord wants us to persevere through any trials we might be going through, or if you are just in an easy time right now, He doesn't want you to get sidetracked by "stuff". Sometimes, we need to persevere at letting go of some things. Other times we need to persevere with staying on the right path while at the same time being a light IN the world, in our community, in our neighborhoods, or on the job. We are not to just blindly walk through life as Christians, never sharing life experiences withe people who need Him. We need to persevere, like a determined 8 year old, with our eyes on the final prize: going where the unbelievers are, like Jesus did, sharing and doing life, and praying. If we determine in our hearts to show Jesus in our lives to others, He will be faithful to do a good work in them and possibly in us. Persevere! And then we will take off on our journey, just like Claire took off on her bike!

Faith,
I read about Claire's perseverance and your comments comparing that to a spiritual journey - and how that hit home for me! Isn't it wonderful how our gracious Lord knows just what we need and when we need it and then provides us with the most special friend to put it out here for this particular lamb to read! Your friendship is such a gift!
See you at WDS!
Lynn
Lynn, thanks for sharing your thoughts. You, too, are a special friend to me. I am so glad the Lord brought Dave and I to GF and for me, to WDS! Let's keep persevering in the Lord together!
