In our family, we all love to read! We go to the town library all year 'round. The girls take out books once a week in their school library as well. We buy certain books that we want to add to our classic children's collection or our adult library. My husband and I don't tend to buy fiction books as we can get them for free from the library, unless they are a "classic" that we want to own. We do, however, buy books for Christian living, for spiritual edification, parenting books, study guides, etc. I was reading through one of our favorite book catalogues yesterday and discovered some books I would either like to buy or at least check out. We are also blessed that in our town library we have an extensive supply of good Evangelical non-fiction books and Christian fiction. I am not really a Christian fiction book lover....I prefer secular mysteries, historical fiction and suspense books. It is rare for me to like a Christian fiction author although I have found 2 that I do really enjoy. (Beverly Lewis, Terri Blackstock).
Anyways: if you are like us, you have more free time in the summer to just sit and enjoy a good book. We like to bring books to the beach with us or to parks. On hot, humid days like today, the girls and I make a big pitcher of iced tea and sit in the family room (we have central air!) and just have an hour of reading. It is good for them and good for me! So, read through this list and see if you find a book YOU might want to check out! Around our house, we will be taking out lots of books this summer! Hope you do, too!
(the books listed here are all for adults or older teens, all Christian content)

- A Woman After God's Own Heart by Elizabeth George. This book centers around developing a deeper love for God, husband, children, home and ministry. There is also a study guide and workbook available.
- Falling Forward by Sandi Patty. This is an autobiography by the famous Christian singer. She writes about how God uses broken people to glorify Him.
- The Purpose-Driven Church by Rick Warren. This book is fantastic! I read it last year and wished I had read it when it was first published. It is just a good read and I learned so much about what it takes to have a balanced church.
- Wild at Heart by John Eldridge. My husband recommends this book (and he is picky!). This is geared for men but I read through parts of it to "understand" my man a bit better. An excellent read.
- Bridge Called Hope by Kim Meeder. This book is a sequel to Hope Rising. The Meeder family has a ministry to troubled teens on a horse ranch where the horses are recovering from past abuse. This is a true story and teens, especially ones who love horses, will enjoy it. My oldest daughter read Meeder's first book because she was a rider for 5 years and has a passion for horses. I read it because I have a passion for abused and neglected kids!
- The Purity Principle by Randy Alcorn. This is a great book to open up discussion at home or at church (small groups!) about sexual integrity. Great for parents and couples, even older singles.
- Point Man by Steve Farrar. This book is geared for men. He discusses the "war on family" such as divorce, promiscuity, suicide and addictions. and YES, these social issues are in the Christian church! This is a must have book for every home!
