Does anyone remember this comedy show?? I think it must have been re-runs I saw as an older child/young teen growing up in the 1970's.
The husband sure wasn't very nice was he? Yet beneath that gruff, often abusive, exterior, he really did love her!
(no, my beloved is not anything like Ralph....I just happen to love the show and this pic!)
It's time for Marriage Monday and the topic this month is "Memories of the Honeymoon". Thank you to E-Mom for hosting this. You can find her very informative and godly blog by clicking here.
Ah....the Honeymoon!!
Sunday to Sunday. (we were married on a Saturday at noon and flew out on Sunday morning so we could spend the first nite in our own place here in the Capital Region of NYS, after driving back from my hometown in Central NY) We flew from Albany to JFK in NYC and then from there on down to.......
"One Happy Island".
ARUBA! (19 miles long, 6 miles wide...one small island!)
A gift from my new in-laws. When asked where I would go if I could go anywhere on my honeymoon, shortly after Dave and I were engaged, I answered "Paris". My mother in law said "what would be your 2nd choice?" I said "I don't know.....Aruba??" (thinking the whole time that I really would probably end up in a tent in the woods of New Hampshire or Vermont for a week of camping and hiking....a doable honeymoon for a man who had just finished grad school and a woman who was in her 3rd year of Special Ed teaching in an inner city prek...my grad work was paid for due to a full fellowship but I was still paying back an undergrad loans and paid for my own wedding..other than the reception...we were "broke")
About a month after that conversation, they told Dave and I they were paying for a trip to Aruba for us, honeymoon resort included, as our wedding gift! We just had to pay for the meal-plan we wanted and of course any souvenirs. GLORY TO GOD!!!! A remote, romantic honeymoon with no tent!
I have pictures but....didn't have time to get them scanned and put into the computer to add to this blog so.....
I'll try to paint a picture with words.....Join me as we begin our journey......
It was glorious. Temps in 80's and no rain at all except for less than 5 minutes in the middle of one night. Seriously. A constant, balmy breeze.
Bright, cerulean blue skies. Hot sun.
Warm, white sands.
Warm, tropical, clear waters.
Ice-cold drinks.
Delicious French, Dutch, Spanish, and Italian foods.
Charming cathedrals.
Busy bicyclists and buses.
Lazy lizards.
Pretty pelicans.
Long walks.
Different looking trees......note the tree in above pic. It is called the Divi-Divi tree...they grow that way due to the winds.
Starry skies. Walks in the moonlight. Wine on the terrace.
Swimming in the pool followed by naps on the beach.
A room right on the white sandy beach!

~this is where we stayed for 7 wondrous nites~
Melt in your mouth veal dishes. (veal down there is fresh from Venezuela...I haven't had veal like that since.......it is all grass-fed down there which is why it is so tender and moist)
Afternoon delight: I'll leave it up to your imaginations....they take naps down there......ours didn't involve sleeping......
All you can eat outdoor breakfast buffet. Every. single. morning. at our resort, the Divi Tamarijn.
Practicing Papiamento (the native language: mixture of French, Dutch, Spanish and Italian) and much laughter!

Rocky northern coastline. Exploring, hiking, touring.
Roaming goats. Everywhere.
San Nicholas. The southern tip where we went......

Walking to Baby's Beach...(on other end of island)..a gentle cove.....only got a bus ride to the outerskirts of this beach. No bus back.
Building sandcastles. and memories.
Sun-burned bodies.
Late in day......no bus. No taxi. No town. No cars.
Walking more than a mile. NO COLD DRINKS.....
A tennis club. Still open. Cold bottles of coke. Refreshing.
More walking.
Hot, dusty, tired.
Didn't matter.
Hand in hand....in love.....an adventure.
"married for life.....friends for eternity" the journey together was just beginning.......it's been a great 20 years (June 30, 2010)......

Sounds like the perfect gift and the perfect honeymoon.
What a wonderful GIFT! You did an excellent job of painting the picture! Oh sounded so nice!
OH sigh... so idyllic! A beautiful word-picture, Faith. Loved your story, and such a nice gift from your MIL. (A couple of other stories like that.)
It's funny, because today I received a comment from an old friend who actually grew up in Aruba. Can you imagine? (Her parents were teachers and moved down there from TX.)
So happy you were able to post today. I know you're very busy w/ your girls. I enjoy your happy marriage...
