The book is this
It is the second, and final, book in the Marta's Legacy series by a very good Christian author.
You can read the review for the first book by clicking here.
Her Daughter's Dream was a very good read, but I preferred the first book.
This second book seemed to drag on to me......and by the time I met the final character, I was ready to be done with this series.
The setting continues to be California with some scenes set in various places around the USA. There is a short time at the end of the book where some of the characters go to Switzerland. I won't reveal the actual ending or what that entails as I wouldn't want to ruin it for you!
Basically, this book is about how keeping silent about various sorrows/life circumstances can tear a family apart but that, through Christ, the grace of God and His forgiveness...as well as our own choice to forgive, can heal deep wounds.
This book centers around Hildemara's daughter Carolyn (Marta's granddaughter) and Carolyn's daughter May Flower Dawn. You will find out if May Flower Dawn is successful in bridging the pain and helping to bring healing to her mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
I do recommend this as a good piece of historical Christian fiction and appropriate for ages 14 and older....if you have a child younger than 18 reading this book, you might want to explain the hippy culture of the 1960's and the "free love" culture, drugs, etc. of the early 1970's.
The ending was a bit of a surprise for me....it certainly didn't turn out the way I had predicted.
Will I choose any other of Francine Rivers' novels?? probably not. (although I did read Redeeming Love and liked it)

I did like this one too though I found it skipped quite fast in places but I guess when that much ground is being covered a story must breeze through the more unimportant parts.
I hope you change your mind about reading some of Francine Rivers other novels. The Last Sin Eater is really good and so is The Scarlet Thread and the Atonement Child. If you like historical fiction of the early church the Mark of the Lion Series is amazing.
Hi Susanne...yes this series covered a large time span! 4 generations of women...amazing! I tried reading Last Sin Eater and just could NOT get into it! I did really like Redeeming Love....i've never heard of the other ones..I'll keep my eyes out for that series. thanks!
