Fall Into Reading Challenge Wrap-Up 2012

Well, it is officially the winter season now, and Christmas is only a couple of days away.

This means it's time to wrap up the Fall Into Reading Challenge hosted by Katrina from Callapiddar Days.

I love to read. It's one of my favorite past-times. However, I didn't get as much done this autumn as I normally would because of the very sudden death of my mom on October 24th. For 2 full weeks I read nothing except Scripture so....I got very behind on my list.  AND I had trouble getting a few of the books on my list. There was either a very long waiting list at the towne library or they just didn't have them. I also added a few to my original list because I saw some on the library shelf that said " read me"!

My original list contained 14 books.  Of those 14, I completed 8.  I did book reviews on all of them and if you are interested, you can find those from going to my side bar, looking under "labels" and clicking on Book Reviews!

I finished a devotional book, Blessings by Laura Story, during this challenge. I had started it at the end of the summer.  It was very good.

I DID read or begin 4 books that were NOT on my original list (and did book reviews on those as well):
  • Faith byJennifer Haigh....could NOT get into this one!
  • Scarlet Thread by Francine Rivers.  I could NOT get into this book at all, either!!!
  • The Whisperer by Donato Carrisi. I thought I would LOVE this one as it sounded like a great mystery....until I realized it was too violent for me and written by a "psychic". I returned it to the library! I just don't do those kinds of books, fiction or not!!
  • Eve's Daughters by Lynn Austin. I am almost done with this one and expect to finish it either tonite before bed or tomorrow afternoon when I can finally relax!  It's excellent and I plan on writing up a review some time after Christmas.
In Summary

I completed 8 books and am almost done with the 9th. And the library just called me earlier this week to report that Bone Bed by one of my favorite authors, Patricia Cornwell, was ready for me to pick up! So that's what I'll be reading while on my Christmas vacation.

I'm not sure if there will be a Winter Reading Challenge, but winter is a great time for me to read lots of books as I don't engage in winter sports and I'm not a huge tv fan.I like to come home from the elementary school where I work all day, and after housework and dinner/errands/time with my 8th grade girl, curl up with a fleece blanket and read all evening!

Do you plan on doing some reading this winter?

Hee, hee, glad to know that someone else hears books' enticing words as well. :)

I love Francine Rivers but The Scarlet Thread is my least favorite of hers.

I'm so sorry you lost your mother.

I really liked that Lynn Austin book also. Am surprised you couldn't get into the Scarlet Thread. I read that one years ago. I didn't do so great with this fall's list. Don't know what happened. Life I guess.
