The One Who Made It All

pine-scented forest path........

sunlight flickering on a remote pond..........

steps treading lightly on moss and lichen-lined rocks strewn along the trail down..........

and glorifying

...........the One who made this all.............

there is freedom when we dance and sing and celebrate the One who has created us...........my kind of "dancing" is hiking in the Adirondack wilderness among the beloved mountains and forest streams, all the while being amazed at His creation and how I get to do this life....this life of work, play, loving, learning and leaning.......

on Him.......the One who made it all

Do you pause to give Him glory?

Do you practice the presence of God?

When we are taking time to pursue rest and refreshing moments, we are putting our eyes on Him and leaving our to-do lists and multi-tasking aside to revel in Him. The Creator.

And we practice the Presence of God.

And we find Peace in that Presence.

So it was for Dave and I on our hiking date.

My husband actually agreed to spend an entire day with me out in the western part of the Adirondacks.  We were about an hour north of where I grew up and about 2 1/2 hours northwest of where we live now.

I hadn't been to that part of the state since our oldest daughter was 2, about 18 years ago!

Driving through the pine forest to the trailhead, I noticed the sparkling sun on the chain of lakes....how bright and beautiful everything was, and I couldn't help but wonder why people just don't "see" God in the world. In the physical world He made.  I really don't get it.

At any rate, as I was driving along, I was happy that Dave wanted to be the passenger that day.  It gave me the chance to concentrate on the roads I was driving on and notice things I might not have seen had I been a passenger with my head in a book.

I noticed how so many people don't pause to reflect.  We rush from one activity to another and don't really take a Sabbath, the way it was meant to be taken.

Some parents I know, rush their children from school to summer camps. One summer camp after another. And although those things are all good things, are our children really learning to appreciate the physical world?  Are they playing outdoors?

Are they taking time to pause?  Are they learning to practice the Presence of God and experience that peace that it brings?

Are they discovering the One who made it all??

How nice that you and Dave were able to spend the day doing one of your favorite things. ;)

Sounds like a perfect date! And you're right, as a society we tend to always be on the run, always on the go. Working with preschoolers, I see it all the time, families running from one thing to another. We need that pause to slow down. I love the term "practicing the presence of God". It reminds me that it takes a conscious effort on our parts.

BTW, let me know what you think of the Picoult book you're reading.

Susanne!! I had trouble at the beginning of the book....it was a slow start. after talking to several friends who've read it they felt the same way. I am about half way through and now I LOVE it!! it's very eye opening and I heard the ending will make me cry. I love her "moral dilemma" books.
