2013 Book Review #34:

This is a non-fiction book that grabbed my oldest daughter's attention at the B&N bookstore earlier this summer. I had a gift card from a student so I used it to buy.....new Adirondack books of course! I don't tend to buy fiction as I can borrow them for free from the library or get them on my iPad or Nook for free or cheaper.  However, I DO collect Adirondack books......mostly hiking guides/trail guides but I do have some history and ADK legend/fairy tale books as well.

This book grabbed my daughter's attention because she is a very good photographer and a graphic design major with a keen sense of "good art".  Her photographs are art pieces.

The author of this book is a very well known and popular photographer for the Adirondack Mountains and the Adirondack wilderness.

I loved reading his hints about how to take great shots and where to find them.  Some of the photographs in the book look like paintings!!

It is a beautiful book that would make a great gift for someone who loves the mountains or photography or both.  Reading through the book really made me appreciate where I live.....I live 35 minutes south of the  Eastern Adirondacks and about 65 minutes southeast of the Southern Adirondack region. My dad lives about 20 minutes from the western/southern ADKs and 2 of my sisters live right on the southern edge of the Eastern region.  We are blessed.  Even when I go up to the Central region of the mountains, it is only an 80-90 minute drive.  I love these mountains!!

The book is the kind that you take your time to read through.  It's a book to savor.

The author also captions his photos of where or when he took it  He also includes tips like where to stay while in that particular area that he is writing about, where to eat, and the best season to get certain shots based on what section of the mountains he is writing about. He has scenes from all 4 seasons.  He does include what trails he may have hiked as well, to get to the particular spot.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it is now on display on my living room coffee table for guests to enjoy.

In my opinion, this book is appropriate for ages 12 and older. Even younger children who love the mountains and lakes of the Adirondacks would love looking through this book.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, I rate this a 10.
