Mid December Faves

What a week.  And one more until Christmas!!  All of a sudden my schedule is busier so I'm going to take a few moments to pause and reflect back on this crazy week by sharing FIVE of my FAVES and linking up with others who share.  Susanne is our gracious hostess!

I celebrated my 57tth (!!!) birthday by going to see my 17 yr old "baby" ballerina perform in a winter holiday recital at a local arts center. I will post the video later this weekend. It was a lyrical ballet duet performed to the music of one of my fave singers.

and my husband took me out for breakfast at a new breakfast spot in the next town northeast of us which is only open for breakfast and is rather new...we discovered it is the best kept secret in the Capital Region of NYS!!

  • NEW SOAP!  I am loving the new "Christmas Morning" handsoap by Bath and Body Works.  I have one in our half bath off the kitchen and bought a couple more for the other sinks in the house.  There was a sale going on which is always a fave.  The scent is just amazing and not too strong.

  • COZY EVENINGS!  Between steaming mugs of coffee or tea, a good book, a great devotional, warm, fleece-lined slippers, and flannel sheets, we have been enjoying some cozy evenings at home.  We've had Christmas Choir rehearsal for the last 2 Thursday evenings and we have 2 more rehearsals next week, but other than that, the schedule hasn't been too hectic. I'm thankful for some down time in the evenings.

  • SMOOTH TRANSITION:  My first couple of days of being back at work, in a new school, have been very smooth.  The commute is longer with a lot more traffic but I've been getting used to that new routine.  The classroom is lively with 12 special needs preschoolers ages 3-5.  I'm directly working with a 4 yr old boy with some social/emotional issues so it's going to be challenging but rewarding.  I'm tired though and very thankful I am NOT the head teacher!  There is so much more paperwork nowadays!!

  • CHRISTMAS PARTY!  Wednesday evening, some of the ladies from the class I took all autumn at church (Armor of God) got together at one of the leaders' home for a party.  We did a "white elephant gift/yankee swap" which was great fun, and had a marvelous dinner of soups, salad, and cookies.  She also made some scrumptious apple cinnamon tea which hit the spot as was very cold.  We don't have a lot of snow but we sure do have winter temperatures!  I'm thankful for the group of ladies I got to know and it's fun to see everyone in a more informal setting like a home and party.

  • POWER WALK WORK-OUT:  Earlier this week we had some gorgeous weather, meaning the sun was out, the temps were in the low 30s and the snow we received Sunday night into Monday morning was just about 3 inches which  mostly melted by the late afternoon.  For 3 days I had a great power walking work-out.  I even did a personal best of power walking one mile in 12 minutes!  That day I ended up walking a little over 2 miles before the cold wind drew me back indoors.  I'm thankful I have time most afternoons for a brisk walk in nature.

That's it for me this week.

I hope you all enjoy the last weekend before Christmas and the first day of Winter/Winter Solstice on the 21st!

Happy Weekend!!

Happy Birthday to you!

Love the B&B soaps. They are such a good deal and a fun way to spruce up the kitchen or bath.

It's nice to slow down and enjoy quiet evenings at home. Trying to do more of that.

You know it's gotta be cold when you see horses with blankets on them. It makes a really nice picture against the white snow. We've had some cozy evenings at home too, but more of a forced stay at home because well who wants to go outside in the frigid temps we've been having. glad you had a lovely birthday.

Belated Happy birthday! Sounds like you had a good day. Good to know the new job is working out well. We've had really mild weather here this week but it's been a bit damp and murky. I'd prefer colder weather but not the snow thanks ;) Have a good weekend.

That's the great thing about this season, spending down time in cozy environments. I'm getting ready for a cup of cocoa right now!

Good job on the power walking. Your dedication amazes me!

Happy birthday! Sounds like a wonderful day!
