Mid-September Faves

It's Friday which means I'm pausing to find my favorite things, people or events from the past week and linking up at the FFF community.

What made you pause and say "thank You" this past week?

White Sangria Cocktail
  • DATE NIGHT!  Dave and I had our date night last Friday night and we chose one of our fave restaurants in Saratoga Springs.  It was our first time there since Covid began! We had a gift card so we ordered cocktails and whatever we wanted to try.  I ordered the Radiotori  Pesto dish with freshly grated Parmesan. It was absolutely amazing.  I ate the entire plate which I don't usually do! Dave had the alfredo special of the night.  The chef makes his own pasta and it's just the best we've ever had. We could have eaten outside but it was a little chilly so we had a nice corner table looking out onto the street. Sadly, they couldn't honor our gift card as their system is down during covid (we found that odd) but they did say they will honor it after the expiration date once their system is back up and running.  We had a great time and I'm thankful we had a nice evening out after a busy week.

  • CHECK!  I had a long "to do" list for housework and bills, etc.  I had a leisurely breakfast with Dave Saturday morning and then tackled the list.  It felt good to check everything off as I completed the chores and everything was completed by 2 pm!  I love a productive Saturday morning and am thankful I completed all that housework so I could enjoy the rest of the weekend!

  • TRAIL RUN/HIKE! I've been to this Nature Conservancy Preserve twice this week plus one afternoon at another local preserve to do some cardio workouts.  I power hike/walk then trail run and then swtich back.  I'm not a great runner but my amount of time I can tolerate running is improving.  Well, I ended up hurting my upper back Wednesday evening after trail running so I will need to take a break from it for a week or so. But getting out after work for a 30-40 minute work out in the woods is something I'm really thankful for!

  • HYMN SING!  My dear friend Deborah and her sister Diane, both of whom are very close to me as well as sisters-in-Christ and with whom I grew up with in central NY, and their cousin Rachael who is also a friend of mine, met me for lunch in a town just to the west of me and then we went up to the country home of our childhood pastor who is turning 91 this month.  It was such a special time of visiting and then we all sang several classic hymns and wow....what a wonderful way to bless Pastor Leonard.  (he lost his wife of 72 years back in August). There's something so amazing about the unity of Christ and long time friends.  I'm so thankful I took the day Sunday to do this.

  • CINNAMON COFFEE:  After work sometimes, I like to make myself a one cup pour over.  I found this new coffee at our local Targ*t store under their Good and Gather brand name.  I just love cinnamon coffee but the St*rbucks one is a bit too strong for me...it has some kind of weird spice or something.  This one is actually a good strong cinnamon but with an undertone of vanilla.  It's perfect with a splash of unsweetened coconut milk.  I enjoy a cup of coffee as long as it's before 8 pm!  I'm thankful for chillier evenings and great tasting coffee.
That wraps up my week.

I hope whatever you do this weekend, that you take some time to enjoy the great outdoors!

Hi Faith - That dinner with your husband sounded so delicious! Bonus - you still have your gift card so you can go back and use that later. I love your hike - that trail looks great. That is so nice that you went to visit your old pastor and sing some hymns for him. What a great service to a great man. It's always nice to get chores finished early, so there is still some weekend to enjoy. Have a good one. See you again soon!

I don't usually like pre-flavored coffee though I do like to add a shake of cinnamon to my coffee. I'm trying to cut dairy waaaay down so I'm going to give coconut milk a try. The dinner out sounds relaxing and delicious. That is kind of weird about the gc. I'm thinking maybe bottom line is they are not honoring them now because restaurants have lost and are still losing money with all the regulations limiting how many people they can take in at a time. The restaurant we went to used to be waiting in line on a Friday night but when we went there was maybe a 6 - 8 tables being utilized. Really sad. The trail looks lovely. I have got to get some kind of exercise routine going during the work week. Since the gym shut down permanently I can't seem to get it together. 72 years married...what an amazing legacy!

I'm not usually a flavored coffee fan although once in awhile I will use a flavored creamer. How do you sleep if you drink coffee after noon?? :)
What a great way to honor your childhood pastor by visiting and singing with him.
We are slowly getting to know some of the trails (which are abundant) around here. There's one that will be within 100 yards of our new home! Yay! The Professor can't wait to get his bike!

I was sorry to miss FFF this week. I was in the hospital most of Thursday and Friday, but am home now and doing fine. The date night sounds fun! Odd about the gift card, but maybe Susanne's idea is on point. Still seems they would have honored it, though. I love a crossed-off to-do list! The hymn sing sounds like such a special time. My pastor from my teen/college years is in his 90s and not doing well-it would be s special to see him like that before he passes.
