It's mid-October already and Friday! This means I'm pausing in my day to find FIVE things from the past week that were blessings to me. I'm joining other like-minded bloggers over at Susanne's site. Head on over to see how to participate in this gratitude meme.

- MINI-RETREAT: Dave and I went away last Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon and stayed in a small cottage at the place where we rent a bigger cottage in the summer months. It was heavenly. We were just going to stay in the motel there but the owners surprised us by giving us the "Honeymoon Cottage" for the same price as the motel room!! That's a HUGE blessing. Here are two pics I took from their property on Sunday morning before we checked out. I'm thankful we had two nights and days together with no distractions (we did post a lot of pics on Instagram/FB for those of you who are on there with us). Our marriage really needed this. We enjoyed dinner out at a new-to-us restaurant on Friday evening. It was heavenly! Then we enjoyed dessert and wine at the cottage afterwards and watched a crime show on the television together. It had been quite awhile since we had a weekend away with no daughters tagging along!
Owls Head Mountain from the beach at The Shamrock on Long Lake West-Central ADKS (we climbed this mt in 2013) |
- DEEP WOODS HIKE: Dave actually agreed to go hiking with me on Saturday. The weather had been forecasted to have a thunderstorm around 2 pm so we had a quick breakfast and then drove the 15 minutes to the trailhead. We started hiking at 8:45. I had hiked this trail into the woods to a remote pond before (in snow in 2014 with 2 other hikers)but Dave had never been there. We both did Blue Mountain with the girls which shares the same parking lot (back in 2006 when we were camping in the town to the south) Tirrell Pond is actually on the back side of the mountain. Total miles hiked was 6.4 The whole trip was colorful and we were the only hikers on the trail and at the pond. I'm so thankful we had the morning together...and we made it back to the car by 1 and the thunderstorm didn't start until about 4 pm! Here are some of my fave scenes from the hike ( there are SO many we took....here are my faves)
First mile of the trail is like this: totally leaf covered Tirrell Pond trail from Blue Mountain 10 October 2020 |
2nd mile of the trail to Tirrell Pond is narrower and more difficult to maneuver through due to the blow down from storms and it's not well marked |
the last (3rd) mile in to the pond is narrow but easier to follow Dave led the way for a bit! |
- GAME NIGHT! Dave and I wrapped up the day with picking up take out after our showers and heading back to the cottage to eat, read a bit, and then sip our fave wine and play Scrabble. It was a cozy evening with the wind and rain falling and the heat in the cottage clicked on. It was a wonderful evening and I'm thankful we spent the time together, laughing and talking. And no cell phones to deal with! (we put them away for the evening).

- MOM-DAUGHTER TIME! On Columbus Day, Dave had to work so Courtney and I did our own thing. For me that meant a grocery store trip, chores and laundry. Around 3 pm she thought it would be nice since the weather was so mild, to explore a new-to-us preserve outside our town. So we drove over and started walking the bike path to the wooded trail I had seen there a few weeks ago. Well, this trail is BADLY marked so after a mile of not knowing where in the world we were we backtracked and headed back to the car. And that's when we discovered we weren't even at the proper entrance of the "state park" which this nature preserve is called. And we also discovered a map on a kiosk that showed the trail system is a total of 7 miles. Since it was now 5 pm and getting dark in the woods, we decided to check out the main trail another day. I'm thankful for this late day adventure with my oldest girl.

- CARDS! When Dave and I got back from our weekend away, there was mail of course to go through and one was for me from my dear long time friend Ann who lives in Michigan. We've been friends since we were in junior high youth group together back in central NY. Her card really touched my heart...the message inside as well as the flowers and butterfly on the outside (I don't have a pic of it though as I turned it into a video and it wouldn't upload for me!). And then the next day after work, I received this cute coffee cup card from Dave's older cousin and my dear friend and sister-in-Christ, MaryJo who lives down in PA. Her letter inside was great and full of all her news from the last few weeks. I love writing to friends and hearing back from them and I'm thankful for both women who play an important role in my life.
That wraps up my FIVE FAVES from the past week....what made you say "thank You? and brought a smile to your face?? Do share!!
Have a blessed weekend!!

Hi Faith- I enjoyed your post. It's so great that you and your husband were able to get away. I enjoyed the pictures on Facebook and in this post. I love that your daughter is hiking with you more. Josh will hike with me when I ask him, but he is so busy with work and school right now, that I hesitate to ask very much. I love getting snail mail from friends, so it is great that you got some this week. This was a really nice Friday post. Have a great, relaxing weekend.
What a lovely time away for you and Dave. Fall is such a gorgeous time to do those hikes and trails. The last snail mail I received that wasn't a bill or an add or a statement was from you! It is fun getting in the the mail box! Courtney sure looks a lot like you. Nice that you were able to have some time to spend with her alone too.
What a lovely get-away! Glad you had that time together as well as the time with your daughter. It sounds wonderful. It's so nice to hear news from friends.
How wonderful to have a weekend getaway with your husband. It was nice that you got the honeymoon cottage.
Oh wow I'm so jealous of your time away together. We've been so busy with our move and now all the babies we've hardly breathed the past few months and now Covid is on the rise and we're under tighter restrictions again. But there are always things to be grateful for which is why I love this meme. I love being able to share in your hikes and activities. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
What great blessings for you this week. The getaway weekend and your special time with your daughter were the best.
And then you had the gift of those handwritten messages from special people.
I hope you have a good weekend and week ahead.
Such a great location and time of year for a getaway! I love seeing all the leaves and the fall colors in your neck of the woods.
Your last fave inspires me to send out some more snail mail:)
