It's MAY! And FRIDAY!
Time to look back at the blessings God brought into the week and share FIVE of my FAVES. I love this weekly writing exercise and I'm so happy Susanne keeps it going for us. Check out her blog here!
Tulips in the front flower bed |
- TULIPS! My tulips were still going strong as of last Saturday (Wednesday's wind and rain though, totally blew the petals off almost all of them!). I had Yellow, Pink, White/Pink and Red come up this year. Only about 20 tulips when I planted about 50 bulbs. The chipmunks and bunnies got to the bulbs last fall I think. At any rate, I'm thankful for tulips...Albany's flower....and this year I'm especially thankful for this vibrant red.
Dave at the trailhead register for Tenant Creek Falls hike Southern Adirondacks Saturday 1 May |
- HIKING DATE! Dave actually mentioned to me last Friday evening that he would like to hike with me and my friend Cheryl (she's from the central part of NYS) to the waterfalls we were heading to. My goal last Saturday was to follow the newly blazed trail past the first falls to get to the 2nd/3rd falls 2 miles in from where Dave is standing in the pic above. Well, we had a blast! Our friend was slower in hiking and stopped to take pics at the first falls. Dave and I had taken the girls here several times when they were younger and I've gone there with so many different friends. I was most excited to see the other 2 falls that were only accessible in the past by bushwhacking (which I don't do). Dave and I followed the entire trail and it took another 40 minutes to go that extra 1.2 miles! It was crazy difficult only because we had to cross a stream twice and at times the trail seemed to disappear. But if we kept Tenant Creek on our left, we knew we would be ok. It was just stunning. We were the only people there!! I'm thankful he and I had this part of the trail to ourselves. ANd I'm super thankful I finally got to see these falls! (my dad when he was growing up used to hunt in these woods but there were no trails!). Here are a few of my fave photos from that day:
Falls #1 on Tenant Creek just .9 miles in from the car |
Tenant Creek at about the 1.2 mile mark totally remote trail in the deep woods of the southern ADKS |
Falls #2 with #3 right on top... we still have about .2 miles left of the trail to get there! |
- BIRD EGGS! Monday after work I changed my clothes and got ready for my power walk. I stopped at the cherry tree closest to our living room windows to pull some weeds around my grape hyacinths and heard a flapping of wings and a mourning dove practically attacked me! Well, when I looked up as she flew to the tree across the street, I saw a nest with 3 pale pink eggs. Seems like she's a mama waiting for her babies to arrive! First time we've had mourning dove eggs in the tree. We usually get robin eggs. I'm thankful for nature and these pretty eggs that go so well with the cherry blossoms!
- TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK! It's National Teacher Appreciation Week and all week our site supervisor and our executive director have been leaving fun treats for us in the kitchen or in our mailboxes. We really are a tight knit community and all three work sites have benefited from these extra special gifts that show we are truly appreciated. Monday was a fun coupon for a free meal at McD's. Since I don't eat that kind of fast food, I gave it to my husband as he likes their fish sandwiches. Tuesday was free donuts from this place (and yes, I ate one!!)Wednesday was a free coffee from McD's and Thursday was a coupon for a free ice cream at a local dairy store. I don't know what today's will be until I get to work later! We've all had so much fun finding these treasures in our community kitchen. I'm so thankful for my work colleagues!
- TEA TIME AND EVENING WALKS: I bought myself a new glass tea pot for the stove. It came with an infuser and I just love love love it! Our stainless steel one was so hard to keep clean! This one is easy to clean and the mineral deposits from the water don't cling to the glass. Courtney had received some loose vanilla spice tea for Christmas and she offered to make a pot one evening this week. It was very much appreciated as it has been an extremely tough week at work with several students. I also enjoyed some evening walks this past week even though it was cloudy and rainy. Yesterday the sun came back out and it was perfect!! My friend Darlene came over around 5 and we did a half hour power walk together for 1.5 miles. She pushes my limits and I felt great afterwards! It's fun to sometimes work out with a friend. I then came into the house and cooked dinner. I'm thankful for friends who spontaneously come over and I'm thankful for good cups of tea and evening walks after dinner.
That wraps up my fave blessings from the week. Of course there were many more but those are my top 5. What were some of your blessings this week??

Hi Faith. That was such a lovely hike. It looks so beautiful! We are having a teacher appreciation luncheon at school today. Sounds like your school went all out to let you know you are appreciated. I love the bird's nest and the tulips. My tulips in the front garden came up early and now they are gone, except for the ones I have in a vase inside. Have a good weekend. :-)
Glad you got to complete the hike and I hope you get to see those eggs hatch. The appreciation week is a great idea. We all like to feel appreciated. Have a good weekend.
I didn't know mourning dove eggs were pink! How neat! We have lots of mourning doves here, but I have not seen their nests.
I love tulips, except that they don't last long. I have a few but would like to have more.
The teacher appreciation week sounds like fun! We don't care for McD's much, either, except my husband likes their coffee, and we both like their Egg McMuffins.
Glad you had a nice hike and walk!
I'm so glad you were able to do that hike to the falls. Beautiful photos!
Yes, I love tulips, too! The red ones are amazing in their deep and vibrant color.
That tea pot sounds like a good option, especially with the infuser.
Happy Mother's Day!
Beautiful tulips!! I'd love to try my hand at those sometime.
Sounds like you had a great week!!
The hike to falls sounds wonderful. Love the photos. And the photo of the bird's nest! The eggs look so precarious sitting there. I've never seen pink eggs.
Happy Mother's Day to you!
What a blessing to have such a great workplace environment and co-workers! The hike looks beautiful! So nice to get away into nature and have a lovely day with such gorgeous views. I had no idea that mourning doves lay pink eggs. Vanilla spice tea is delicious. Loose tea is so much more flavorful!
