It's Friday and time to pause before the weekend and share FIVE FAVE blessings from the past week. I'm joining in with other bloggers who look for things to be grateful for and we link up over at Susanne's site.
I've been home from our lake/mountain vacation since Monday afternoon, and 9 new little students started in the special ed preK room on Wednesday with 2 more joining us on Monday. It's been a hectic week but a good start to the new year.
FIVE FAVES
Beginning of sunset and fire |
- FIRES AND SUNSETS: Last Friday and Saturday evening, we had a wonderful time around the firepit. We were still on vacation in Long Lake and our good friend Gerri and her new husband John joined us there (they rented their own cottage) for the holiday weekend. We had so much fun! Both of our daughters were still there (they left the next afternoon for home due to work and other obligations) and we met a new family who had younger kids and Saturday evening we met another (older) couple who live not too far from us! It was great to share the community firepit and get to know one another. The sunsets were just stunning for both evenings, too.

- FRIENDS TIME: Gerri and I wanted to go on a hike and she had never been to this place so I suggested we get the guys to go too and make it a double date. The evening before we had all gone out to the local pub and that was the first time we had ever met Gerri's husband and we all hit it off. We had so much fun walking the Peninsula Loop trail and the trail to Rich Lake. We definitely want to hike with them again next summer. Hiking with friends is always so much fun. Then that evening, before dinner and the fire, Gerri and I took our kayaks out and kayaked up to the town beach and back (about 1 mile). My back couldn't handle more than that but it was such a peaceful evening on the lake after a glorious day of hiking, swimming and eating good food. I'm so thankful for good friends to do life with!
- CLASSICAL BALLET MUSIC: Wednesday after work I was driving home and turned on the classical m
usic station as I always do. As I got on the highway, the waltz from the Coppelia ballet came on and yesterday while driving to the library after work, the waltz from Swan Lake Ballet came on! I'm thankful for high quality music to relax to and I thought it was so cool that two of my fave ballets were featured this week.
- NEW STUDENTS: Our classroom currently has 11 students (we have 1 opening) and all of them but 3 are new to preK. All have special needs of course as we are a self-contained special education preK. 2 of the children cannot start until next week so we have had just 9 and it's been a pretty good transition for them. Most of them have significant language and/or speech delays along with other issues and my team is excited to have this new group of children. I'm thankful every thing is set up and we are ready for a great year! (all staff do need to wear masks this fall even though we are all vaccinated....young children still cannot get the vaccine so we are doing our best to be safe and healthy. Some children do wear a mask but they have to be able to tolerate it, take it on and off themselves. Once the children leave at 1 pm, our masks can come off).
Dawn on Wednesday |
- MORNING COFFEE ON THE DECK: I get up at 5:30 Monday through Friday. I have to do my back stretches/yoga pose, shower, and I read my devotional/meditation for the day. I tend to pray a bit. I love doing this as much as possible on our deck. Wednesday morning was perfect. Dawn comes a bit later now in the Northeast (pic was taken at about 6:10 am) and Wednesday's sky was so pretty through our trees in the backyard. It looked better in person than in the photo. I like to have a cup of coffee while doing my Scripture reading and before making breakfast. The half hour routine with my mug of coffee, before eating, is something I'm thankful for and it helps me set a good tone for the day.
That wraps up some special blessings I noted throughout the week.

Hi Faith. You stay at the lake looks so relaxing and lovely. So glad you friends Gerri and John could join you. I am glad to hear that you back held out and that you could enjoy at least a little kayaking. It's also good that both of your daughters could join you for at least a few days. So good that the school year is going well so far. I hope it continues. Have a great weekend. See you again soon. :-)
Sounds like a lovely vacation all around! It was nice your girls and friends could be there for parts of it. I hope your new school year goes well!
Your lake holidays are always so refreshing! I'm glad you had so much fun with friends.
I am always so impressed with your work with the special needs kids.
Enjoy this weekend rest (with some more coffee on the deck).
I always admire you early risers. I'm more of the sleep as late as I possible can kind of person. I get up at 6:15 and start work at 7:30 but I'm still able to enjoy a half hour to have a coffee and read my mail. I need to slow starts. Hope you have many more lovely mornings on the deck. How fun to have friends on a holiday with you!
