A-Z Books

This is a fun meme if you are a book nerd like me. I saw this on my blogger friend Deb's site. Check it out and play along if you like books! It's fun to read everyone's answers.

Author you've read the most books from: God (the Bible is His inspired Words); James Patterson; Jodi Picoult; Patricia Cornwell; Tatiana de Rosnay

Best sequel: The Handmaid's Tale and The Testament by Margaret Atwood. Totally literary. Totally awesome. Way better than the Hulu series. Every book lover/book nerd should read these!

Currently reading: The Princess of Burundi; What's So Amazing About Grace; a hiking guide from the Adirondack Club's Central Region edition; Women in Christian History Devotional

Drink choice while reading: a steaming mug of coffee with a splash of maple syrup or if it's after 8 pm, iced water with lemon or hot herbal tea

E-reader or physical book: Physical hardcover books. I despise reading electronically.

Fictional character you probably would have dated in high school: Nick Carraway from The Great Gatsby

Glad you gave this book a chance: the Harry Potter series

Hidden gem: The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet

Important moment in your reading life: when I realized the symbolism in Les Miserables and the main character Jean Valjean was a type of picture of Jesus or a symbol of hope.

Just finished: The Mountains Sing

Kind of books I won’t read: Horror (used to in high school); most science fiction; most fantasy; romance novels

Longest book you’ve read: Gone with the Wind or Les Miserables (besides the Bible which I read in Chronological order one year)

Major hangover because of: (What book has stayed with me the longest) Les Miserables

Number of cases you own: 5 (1 in the basement = our grad school books we thought we should keep (certain ones for our careers) and old classics; 2 in our bedroom (one for each of us....Dave has his science fiction literature on his and Biblical studies and mine is actually being used as a nightstand and has a non-fiction Christian devotional book on it along with the library books I'm currently borrowing; 2 in our living room: one for our non-fiction Christian books/study guides and a few classics plus Dave's baseball book collection and the other one holds my Adirondack history and hiking books/guides. Claire has 1 in her bedroom but she's moving it to her new apartment soon. OH and we have another old one in the basement but it's currently holding board games, not books!

One book you’ve read multiple times: The Bible. I don't tend to re-read novels or classic books. I did re-read The Secret Garden because I read that novel to each daughter when they were about 7 years old. Also, I have re-read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (my fave book when I was a pre-teen).

Preferred place to read: the deck or backyard; in the woods on a bench; or my corner living room chair near my Adirondian ack hiking guides bookshelf. Sometimes I read on the couch in the family room if no one is watching Netflix or Hulu in there.

Quote that inspires you, or gives you all the feels, from a book you’ve read: “to love another person is to see the face of God....." from Les Miserables

Reading regret: not sure what this means!! I don't typically regret ANY book I read because I refuse to continue a book that's badly written or just doesn't capture my interest. I guess if I had to pick one from a recent book it would be Becoming Myself (it just was NOT a great small group study....too much of her personal convictions vs Core Biblical truth)

Series you started and need to finish: the Kay Scarpetta series.

Three of your all-time favorite books: Oh man. It's so hard to list just 3!! but here goes: Les Miserables; A Tree Grows in Brooklyn; The Secret Garden; The Book Thief; Sacred Pathways. (ok that's 5!!)

Unapologetic fan of: collecting hiking guides/trail books for the Adirondacks and Adirondack history books

Very excited for this release (more than all the others): The next Alex Cross book by James Patterson (I haven't read the one that was released last November yet!)

Worst bookish habit: taking out more library books than i have time for before the due dates; spending way too much time browsing in bookstores and making lists on my phone of the books to look for at the library for free

X marks the spot - start at the top left of your shelf and pick the 27th book: A Gentle Path of Healing

Your latest book purchase: The Lincoln Highway from my youngest daughter's Xmas wish list

Zzz snatcher book (the last book that kept you up late): The People We Keep

Fun post, Faith. Yes, I agree with you. I probably would have dated Nick Carraway as well. It was lots of fun to hear about all the books you love the most. See you again soon!

This post takes me back to the good ol' blogging days when we used to do this kind of thing all the time. So fun. I'm with you, I like physical copy and have no desire to read with an e reader. Love the quote from Les Miserables.
