2022 Book Review 32:The Good Widow

This book is written by two friends who apparently have written other novels. This is my first one by them. It's a "on the edge of your seat" type of story. I loved it!

STORY SUMMARY

Jacqueline (aka "Jacks") Morales is an elementary school teacher and married to James Morales. James is in computer sales and they live outside of Los Angeles. Their marriage is a strong one although it's not perfect.....or at least she thought it was strong until two police officers show up at her door delivering very devastating news.  Her husband of 8 years is dead. He was supposed to be on a business trip to Kansas but instead was found dead from a horrible car crash in Hawaii.  And he wasn't alone.  A woman named Dylan was with him.

Dylan left behind her own grieving partner...her fiance Nick.  Nick is just as puzzled as Jacks is about the affair James and Dylan were having.   They both want answers and Nick, after showing up at Jacks' house, convinces her to go to Maui with him to figure out the answers to Dylan and James' relationship and subsequent deaths.   They begin to retrace the steps James and Dylan took in Maui and Hana.

Now, in Hawaii, Jacks begins to learn that nothing is as it seems.  Not her husband's death, not his affair and not her marriage.....and....not even Nick......

What secrets is Nick hiding?  Why is he so intense with Jacks?  Is he on the rebound? Is Jacks?

And what will Jacks discover in Nick's apartment once they are back in California?

Read the book to find out what exactly happened!

MY THOUGHTS

This is a very well developed book with well developed characters.  I had no idea the authors were going to twist the plot the way they did......although there were moments I suspected some things.  I don't want to go into detail as that would ruin the surprise for you, should you read the book.

The one thing I did NOT like about this book was the weakness of Jacks. It's just too unbelievable that she would fall that quickly for Nick.  That was the only part that bugged me besides the many editing errors in this book!  There were incomplete sentences and just so many mistakes.

The best things about the story was the relationship between Jacks and her sister Beth and the surprise twist a little more than half-way through this short novel.  I was amazed at how deftly the authors turned the plot around to bring on this surprise.  It's hard to explain, but, I  did start to suspect the death was linked to......

....I won't tell.  It will ruin it for you!

In my opinion, this book is appropriate for ages 14 and older.

On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest, I rate this a 9. It would have gotten a perfect score except for all of the editing errors.
