Menu Plan for the first week of October

This might not be the most interesting blog post but it's a way for me to keep my menu handy and I can pull it up to see which recipes I need to pull for the evening.

I'm finding that as I get back into a weekly menu plan, my shopping bill is going down.  Prices have risen, at least here in New York State, and I'm guessing it's that way in other states too, depending on the store, or the item.  Because apples are a main crop of NYS, those are actually at decent prices right now especially in the farmers' markets or the farm stands I pass on my way to various hikes.

I'm flexible with this plan:  sometimes I use Thursday's dinner on Wednesday, etc.  I try to offer a variety of protein sources, too and of course lots of veggies. When we make  tossed salad, we literally use just about any raw veggie we have in the house which usually includes some kind of dark leaf lettuce, tomatoes, all colors of peppers, carrots, radishes, cucumbers, onions.

Do you have a menu plan each week?  It sure has helped me to budget my grocery money!

  • SUNDAY:  Homemade Veggie Baked Mac n Cheese; Sliced Tomatoes

  • MONDAY: leftovers (we have leftover squash stew for cous cous and I have Open House at the preK agency during the time I would normally be prepping dinner so everyone will help themselves to leftovers)

  • TUESDAY: Meatball Stew (with plant-based "meat"balls) and steamed broccoli

  • WEDNESDAY: Tofu Scramble over Jasmine Rice; Apple Spice cookies for dessert

  • THURSDAY: Linguine and Red Sauce; Steamed green beans; Tossed Salad

  • FRIDAY: BLTs and Tortilla Chips/Salsa

  • SATURDAY: Creamy Chicken Noodle Soup; Garlic Bread (subject to change..if Dave goes hiking with me, we're going out to dinner on the way home).

We're usually very flexible with our menus but I agree it does help to keep the grocery bill down if you plan ahead. I've noticed that a lot of our groceries have either increased in price or, if the price is the same the amount you get has been reduced! I definitely save by having the shopping delivered though as I only buy what we actually need rather than all the extras that seem to find their way into my trolley if I'm in the store.

Me and menu plans have a love/hate relationship. I go good for a bit and then it's back to my norm of flying by the seat of my pants cooking. I buy on sale to begin with unless it's for a specific recipe I want to make or try. Everything on your menu looks delicious.
