I've completed 4 more chapters in Isaiah. Here's a summary of my study:
CHAPTERS 17 and 18: The Israeli-Damascus alliance would faith when God dealt with Assyria. Just a remnant of Israelites would trust God. Israel was unfaithful to God and had forgotten their Savior. While the war would devastate them, some of them would realize that their idols and allies wouldn't be able to rescue/save them. These people were in the minority. They would trust God in the middle of the Assyrian attacks. They'd look to God and trust Him. Isaiah told them that God would defeat Assyria after He finished judging Israel.
For us today: All of our great ideas, our volunteer work, and our hard work at careers, ministries, etc can't make up for failing to trust God alone. Being faithful to God means looking to Him first in all situations, allowing the Holy Spirit to help us live according to God's plan. God alone knows all things. He has the power to limit evil and to bring world events to His intended ending. Will we trust God even when we don't understand what He's doing??
CHAPTERS 19 and 20: This is a prophesy from Isaiah's lips (from God) about God and the future of Egypt and Cush. Isaiah warned Israel that their alliances with these nations would be futile. Both would face judgement through God's instrument (Assyria). In Egypt, the civil war and natural disasters would lead to foolishness at the highest level of government. There would be helplessness throughout society. God's judgement would bring Egypt to personally worship and give national recognition to God. When Egypt finally turns from worshipping idols and instead calls on God, He would send a Savior as their defender to rescue and heal them. This time of peace when nations will worship the God of Israel together is called The Millennium.
For us today: God reveals Himself through the judgement of sin to give us the opportunity to recognize our need for the Savior (Jesus). When we call on Jesus, God brings freedom from the condemnation of sin. He rescues us from the idols in our lives and heals us from our brokenness.
Are we giving our lives to Christ and trusting Him with our future??

I love these thoughts. Yes, we must learn to trust God even when we don't know what he is doing. I think that is one of the great challenges of Christian life. You are really learning a lot in Isaiah. Thanks for sharing. See you again soon!
