SEPTEMBER FAVES

Here we are into mid-September already.  It's crazy how fast time flies. It's been a rough week in a couple of  ways but there are always blessings to be found amidst the trials. For those of you who have been  asking:  yes I am still dealing with almost daily cervicogenic headaches/neck pain.  I was totally fine the entire time we were in Michigan and driving home in hubby's car, it all came back. My chirorpractor is working hard to get me pain free but it's a long haul. In the last week, I had 2 pain free days. So for those of you who asked, thank you!  And thank you for your continued prayers for healing. So I'm needing to be intentional about looking for 5 blessings God brought into the week because honestly, I've been pretty discouraged since this has been going on for 18 months.

I'm linking up at Susanne's blog to join in with other bloggers as we  find things to be grateful for.

FIVE FAVES

kitchen rug

  • NEW RUG! I had to run to the Family Dollar store to buy  some bleach cleaner for my kitchen counters (it's so much cheaper than going to the main dept stores) and saw this cute kitchen rug for only $5.  I couldn't resist.  I needed something for late summer into Autumn.  Autumn arrives next week!  I'm thankful for good deals.

  • NEW GROUP!  I joined a women's Bible study/small group at my cousin's house in Galway. It's a long drive for me but I really needed a break from leading a group and our church currently is only offering 2 classes for women, all of which  are very large groups (over 30 women) and I wanted small.  We had our first meeting Tuesday evening, and we'll meet twice a month until the holiday season.  I met 3 new women and it was a pleasure to get to know them. We are committed to praying for one another. The book is based on the gospel of John and it's already packed full of good stuff. I'm thankful for a new group.

  • PRAYER POWER:  I'm thankful for my spiritual mentor M-----and for my sister Hope. They send me prayer requests all the time and this week they both prayed with me over the phone.....sometimes we just text back and forth our requests so I'm thankful I was home to talk with both of them at  different times this  week. I also got to talk and help my friend Diane this past week as we are going through similar things.  There is power in prayer!

  • MUMS! On Tuesday, I picked up 3 pots of mums I had ordered from an ex teaching colleague. I bought 2 pots of orange and 1 pot of white.  They are just starting to bloom and look so pretty in the front flower bed and on my deck steps. I'm thankful for the bright flowers God created.
Claire
July 2021
  • COFFEE WITH CLAIRE!  Yesterday, our youngest daughter Claire had the day off from work (she is no longer a caseworker...she took a job as an optometric tech at this local corporation and is studying to get her license to be an optician) so she invited me down to her apartment for coffee in the mid-afternoon.  It was fun to catch up with her and just relax.  She learned a lot about making a good cup of coffee while a barista at Starbucks (her college job) and she used a really good blend.  This is one of the only "recent" pics I have of her......now that both girls are on their own I don't seem to get many photos taken.  She's doing well and it's always good to get together with my "baby". I'm thankful we could get together for a chat and good coffee!

That pretty much wraps up my week.......I do have to give a shout out to my husband.  He has been so supportive listening to my fears, praying with me, just spending time with me in the evenings (I'm also adjusting to not teaching and it's NOT as easy of a transition as I thought it might be.....don't get me wrong...I love not having to be at work by 8 and I'm not missing the commute or busyness of my days, but being a special education teacher is something I've done for so many years along with just working in general since I was a teenager! It's a whole new way of life and  identity.  Anyways, he's been wonderful  and even brought me coffee in bed yesterday!  Something I never want to take for granted...those little gestures that mean so much.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Faith. So glad you were able to spend some time with your daughter. I will have to look into that book you are reading with your new small group. Sounds interesting. So glad you have found a small group you will enjoy and meeting new people is always lots of fun. I love mums too and have some on my front porch. I really like you new fall mat for your kitchen. Amen to prayer power. I hope you have a good headache-free weekend! See you again soon.

That rug is really cute!
Isn't it the greatest thing to get to spend time with your daughter? It's wonderful to me.
Mums are always welcomed at the beginning of autumn.

I know what you mean about not seeing your grown daughters as much. It's hard to get used to that and retiring. No wonder you are struggling a bit with it.

Yes, Faith, the transition to retirement can be a bit rocky sometimes. Remember what you are retiring TO and not what you're retiring FROM. Now you can have coffee with your girl, drive farther to a Bible study that is a right fit, answer texts immediately and stop to pray.
Hoping you have a less stressful weekend and NO PAIN!

My husband plans to retire at the end of this year, and I am anticipating an adjustment for both of us. I like what Willow said about focusing on what we're retiring to. That's one reason my husband is retiring now--so he can do some other things while he still has the ability.

I'm so sorry about the continued pain. I'm praying for healing.

That rug is cute!

We've been visiting a new church for the last several weeks, and they just started a women's Bible study of Jen Wilknin's Abide, covering 1, 2, and 3 John. I love her books but have not done one of her Bible studies before. I'm enjoying it. We have about eighteen--a little more than I am used to (we had less than 10 at our previous church), but it's going well.

It's nice to have people you can send a quick prayer request text to. It's nice, to, to be able to have an impromptu visit with Claire. I know what you mean about not having as much time with adult kids. We see my middle son, daughter-in-law, and grandson at least once a week, but my youngest only once or twice a month. Then of course my out-of-state one we see twice a year.

So sorry to hear you are struggling with pain again. I hope your chiropracter can help ease that. How lovely to spend time with your daughter. We see a lot of ours as she often works from our home when working from home but we still don't get a lot of time to chat as she has a demanding job with lots of online meetings or calls but I know it's easier for her to work here than at home so glad to help out. Yes starting retirement is a big adjustment and it takes time to establish new routines etc. I'm glad you have a supportive hubby to help. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Faith, I'm sorry to hear about the pain you are enduring. Sending prayers for you. The Bible study sounds like a nice fit for you. I think retirement is like so many stages in life that require time to adjust to. It's a wonderful stage, but not always one that you can just slide right into. I'm sure you'll grow to love it!

I can imagine what a difference it makes to your days not working. It's hard to go from being so busy to slowing right down. I'm sure you will find your groove soon. I'm really sorry to hear of your pain still occurring almost daily. I shall continue to lift you up before the Lord and ask for healing on your behalf. Fun to get together with Claire. When we were with my oldest a couple weeks ago I totally forgot to take pictures. Oh well, we were living in the moment.
