JANUARY FAVES

Welcome to the Friday Fave Five where I share five of my favorite blessings from the past week...those things or people who made me smile and say "thank You, God".  I do this with other women in the blogging community and we all link up at Susanne's site....pop on over to read more!

Monday morning
 8 January

  • WINTER WONDER:  It's finally looking like winter!  Or at least it did on Saturday evening into Monday.  Here in my town, we measured just under 5 inches of snow....elsewhere in the state had between 6-10 inches depending on what region one lives in.  Our youngest daughter had about 8 inches where her apartment is. I'm thankful Dave and I both made it safely to church, as did our oldest daughter, on Sunday morning, as we all had obligations there.  I'm from the "snowbelt" area of NYS originally and learned to drive in this stuff.  So I'm usually fine unless it's freezing rain..that stuff scares me!  I'm so thankful for the beauty and wonder of snow and that we are all safe. And then it all melted... so I'm thankful that with the huge rain and wind storm, that we didn't lose power or have our basement flood.
Tuesday afternoon

  • NEW DECOR:  Because Monday was so beautiful outdoors, I decided to run some errands and then do a walk.  I ended up at H*bby L*bby as their art decor was 40% off.  I ended up getting a new pillow for the new living room chair and the leaf print that will hang there until Spring when I bring out a watercolor that was painted by a local artist of a place we've been to in Maine up at Acadia National Park.  I'm thankful for sales and was actually surprised to see many of the store's Spring items on sale already!

  • CONNECT WEEKEND!  This past Sunday, I had to sit in the church lobby at the tables that were set up for our "Connect Weekend" where people can stroll from table to table and decide what small group Bible or book study they want to join.  Our  church also offers several different types of classes people can take on Wednesday evenings (A financial class, marriage classes, womens classes and a moms class on Thurs mornings.  There's also a mens class on Wed evenings). It's a time where those of us who are small group leaders can meet the people who are interested in our group(s).  I'm doing a book group for 8 women and so far I have 6 ladies who signed up!  2 are personal friends of mine.  I'm also running a monthly walking group  (I came up with the name during Xmas week....more on that at a later post!) for women over the age of 25 and a hiking group for men and women once April gets here.  That group is turning out to be BIG.  So far I have 12 women who have signed up along with 4 men for the hiking part.  I'm thankful we had a good turn out for such a snowy  Sunday.  We will be doing another Connect Weekend this week as well, for people who didn't make it out in the storm. I'm thankful for our church leadership and for the Small Group Ministries director/pastor who put all of this together.

  • EXCELLENT EXAM!  On Monday morning, I had my annual eye exam. I hadn't been to get my eyes examined since spring of 2021 so I was overdue.  I go every other year, usually, although now they want me going every year since I'm in my 60s. I've had the same opthamologist  (the owner of the practice) for the last 20 years until this year.  This year, because he is so popular, he is only taking patients who need eye surgery or who have had eye surgeries with him in the past.  So...I had to meet the other opthamologist who is his partner in the practice after the optometrist did her exam with me.  He came in and  I liked him right away.  He said I have absolutely no issues and gave me some free samples of  eye drops as I've had irritated eyes this week due to the dry weather. I was thrilled that the exam went well and that my eyes are healthy, and because my prescription only changed by a quarter, I don't need to buy new lenses unless I want them.  Super thankful for this!

  • LUNCH WITH CLAIRE:  Our youngest daughter, Claire, has Tuesdays and Thursdays off (her weekend) and yesterday after her annual physical, she came over with an almond milk latte for me and a cold brew for herself. We ended up eating lunch together and she did some laundry here while we ate. She also had  to run an errand to Target while I did some household chores,  and surprised me with a gorgeous long handled pumice stone for me when she returned.  (She had known I was looking for a new one). I'm super thankful for my daughters and I love when I can spend time with one of them during the week.
That wraps up my faves list for the week.  But I do need to do a shout out to one of the other bloggers who does the FFF.  Deb from this blog and I do "marco polos" back and forth and this week I was blessed to have her send me some laughs as well as the assurance that she is praying about an issue.  I"m super thankful for blogging friends and wish I could meet every one in person!!

I hope whatever you have planned for this weekend, that you are warm and have a relaxing one, doing the things you love. Colder temps are arriving here in eastern NY this weekend so I'm planning on staying in for most of it!

Glad to hear your eye check went well - glasses are so expensive so good not to have to get a new pair. How lovely to spend time with your daughter. Both of them sound very caring and thoughtful - you've clearly raised them well. Hope you have a good weekend and the weather doesn't get too bad.

I let my eyes checked each year, it's so important. 5 years ago I had cataracts removed from both eyes, not at the same time of course. We had 3 snowflakes and that was it. How nice to meet with your daughter, I had my son here last week we had to go to the bank, if it happens something to me so that he has access to my account. He loved my new home very much and ate in the beautiful restaurant, they served him twice enormous quantities of rice with roasted Turkey !

Hi Faith. I am super late in reading Fave Five posts this week. Thank you for your kind words! I sure enjoy our Marco Polo messages too. So glad you had a good week and good weather. Your "Soul Steps" small group sounds so good, as does your book group. I love the new decor. Those IKEA chairs are soooo comfy. Glad your week was such a good one. See you again soon!

I do love all the seasons including winter but not when it gets the bitter, bitter cold we are having right now. So glad you had no flooding. Love blue and yellow together. Your little chair looks very cozy. Yay for a good sale. The book you are going to group study looks very good. Glad you're eye exam went well. That reminds me I'm well overdue for mine. How sweet of Claire to surprise you with a pumice stone you were wanting.
