It's so hard to believe the first week of April is here. It's been a mostly rainy week. But because we didn't have much snow this past winter in eastern New York, I know this rain is needed for the vegetables and fruits, and lakes/streams/rivers. So I will choose to be thankful for the blessing of rain and for other things God brought into my week.
I'm sharing FIVE of those blessings that make my "FAVES" list and you can join in or read more over at Susanne's blog.

- EASTER CANTATA: My friend Kathy (she was our maid of honor in our wedding way back in 1990) was performing in the soprano section of a local Easter Cantata. The concert was held at my neighbor's church here in town and the choir was made up of choir members from 11 different United Methodist local churches. Dave, Courtney and I attended the concert and it was wonderful. It was only about an hour, including an offertory and prayer time. After the cantata, we talked with Kathy, her husband and children and her dad for a little while then dashed over to our fave local Indian restaurant to pick up food for an early dinner at home with Courtney, our oldest girl. She couldn't stay as she had plans that evening but I'm so thankful she wanted to go with us and have dinner with us. I'm also thankful I got to see my dear friend and her family.

- EASTER SUNDAY! Easter found us in church worshipping our Risen Savior and then we all headed up to our fave small city to eat Brunch here. My sister Joy and her son Luke also joined us and we all had a great time with beautiful cocktails, food, and fellowship. I'm thankful for this annual tradition and for our church and all that they do to make Easter so very special. (I was so busy eating and talking that photos didn't happen!).
a new season! |
- FRESH LINENS: Tuesday morning, I finished spring cleaning our master bedroom and stripped the bed of the winter linens. I put on fresh sheets like I do weekly, then added the light fleece blanket that goes on until June, and topped it with our spring-autumn quilt. Our bedroom gets the afternoon sun so it gets hot up there beginning around the end of May all the way through til mid-October. We prefer sleeping with the windows open unless really high humidity so this quilt is perfect once June gets here and I remove the fleece blanket. On my to do list this spring, is to order the pillow shams that go with this quilt from the Vera Bradley outlet shop. I'm thankful for a fresh season!

- BRAIN GAME: I discovered this NYTimes brain game and have had a lot of fun with it this past week. It's actually pretty easy although Easter Sunday's was tougher. The girls and I did it together to see who would solve it first. Claire won that spot as she got the entire thing in just 4 minutes. Courtney was next at about 6 minutes and it took me a solid 15 min plus 2 hints to get Sunday's. BUT...the rest of the week I got them all within 5-10 min and didn't need any hints. I typically play later in the afternoon or sometimes after breakfast and my Scripture time. It's a great way to keep your brain active. I still play wordle and quordle at times too and once in awhile I'll solve Connections. But Strands is my fave. I'm thankful for free games we can easily access on our laptops or phones.
re-birth!! |
- NEW GROWTH! Our large pink tea rose bush has started to push forth the new leaves! I noticed them on Monday when I was out in the yard picking up brush. I"m so thankful for signs of re-growth and new life! I love Spring and am thankful the temps will be warming up this weekend and next week. I love the sunshine, blue skies and warmer temps. I love seeing the flowers begin to open. I'm thankful for Creation.
Those are the things that made me smile....special blessings from God......

How fun to attend an Easter Cantata!
I have to stay away from those games. They tend to consume my time.
Yes, new growth is everywhere and it excites me very much! I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
I absolutely love your quilt! I am partial to blue, and these combinations are so pretty! It is tricky here to know how to make up a bed. Some nights I need that extra fleece blanket and other times I'm throwing it off!
I miss Easter Cantatas. My church doesn't have them. I have so many memories of years ago in Florida of cantatas - both Easter and Christmas. I always sang second soprano.
Our weather here changes almost daily. We've had warm temps - 70s during the day and then a storm and cold front came through and now we're having frost warnings.
I enjoyed reading all your blessings today. Have a blessed weekend.
Note to Monica--Wordle, Connections, and Strands all have only one game per day. That's one thing I like about them--they're simple with no bells and whistles and constant ads for other games.
I enjoy Strands a lot, too. Sometimes the category they list doesn't always give a good idea of the words in the puzzle, until you solve the first one. Today I needed a lot of hints, but mist days none or one.
Glad you had a great Easter and time with Courtney and your friend! I miss cantatas, too. Our current church and the previous one doesn't/didn't do them (the previous church because it was so small).
That bedspread is pretty!
Barbara: yes today's was hard!! I also like these type of games because I allow myself only a few min, can put it down, go back to it when i have some down time. Plus they're good for the brain as we age!! My church doesn't do Easter Cantatas either....or Xmas ones....i was visiting a church to see my friend sing.
Oh my - I might be slightly obsessed with the NYT brain games. I "have" to do them every day....and so enjoy it! Such a cheap thrill:) So glad you enjoyed your Easter. We did as well. And I also took the winter linens off the bed...only to have winter return!! Well, of course it did!!
I'm with you with the nice clean sheets. Love the smell after being lined dried outside which mine are, weather permitting.
Sounds like you had a nice Easter. I grew up in the Methodist Church and sang in the choir. I love hymns, but our church does not sing them. I changed my bedspread to a spring one, but still have an extra blanket. Have a nice weekend!
Oh I would have loved to hear that cantata. It is always sweet when we can share those events with our adult kids.
We've had rainy and cold weather, too. I am looking forward to having some warmer weather so I can be out in my garden soon. I have noticed lots of plants budding and blossoming here.
Happy weekend to you!
Glad you had a lovely Easter celebration. Well I had never tried Strands before but I think I will be hooked! I have my routine of puzzles each day - Wordle and the spelling bee, Worldle and also over here we have a show called The One Percent Club - it's a game show where questions get progressively harder going down from 90% to 1% - the percentage is the number of people who correctly got the answer right when tested. There is an app with a question of the day. What I like about it is that they are not knowledge questions but rather a mix of logical/observation questions. Definitely one to keep your brain working. Have a good week Faith.
Easter was rather wet here ! I never liked brain games, but here in my "castle" I love it ! It amazes me what nearly 100 year old women or men still know ! They are actually better then the younger ones ! It's nice that we have these activities, if there were no rain and always sunshine I would think that I am in a summer camp !
I love the colors of your quilt! Fun to see your friend in the choir and have Courtney come with you! I looked at the menu at that restaurant and it all sounds delicious! I must admit I much prefer the mindless games where I don't have to think. LOL.
