Flowers for Saturday 9

Because Miley Cyrus was a singer I allowed my daughters to listen to when they (and she!) were young and also when she played Hanna Montana, a show I would let them watch, along with the movies she made for pre-teens, I decided to play along with the Saturday 9 bloggers. You can join in by heading to this blog.
I also really love this song!

Saturday 9: Flowers (2023)

Unfamiliar with this week's tune? Hear it here.

1) In this song, Miley Cyrus sings about gold as though it represents the best. Do you more often wear gold or silver?

I mainly have sterling silver pieces.  But I also have a couple of real gold pieces of jewelry. Our wedding rings are white gold.

2) She also sings the praises of buying herself flowers. Are there any cut flowers in your home right now?

YES! I still have the dozen cream roses Dave bought me for Valentine's Day. They are just beginning to droop.

3) She tells us she's going to paint her nails cherry red. Do you handle your own mani/pedi, do you go to a salon, or do you just let your nails go natural?

Because I studied piano (along with other instruments in college) from ages 7-33, I always had to keep my nails short. If I "paint" them I typically use a neutral cream shade or just clear polish. For my toes I use bright pinks or light shades of mocha in the summer months.

4) In 2019, Miley had vocal cord surgery, and her recovery required her to go weeks without uttering a sound. Would it be difficult for you to keep your lips zipped for a week?

Believe it or not, when I was an 8th grader, my good friend Frances and I decided to see who could keep the quietest the longest. We were notorious for  constantly talking during class. I lasted 2 days. I like to talk. 😀

5) Dolly Parton is Miley's godmother, and Miley singles Dolly out as the one who taught her "how to treat people well." Tell us about someone who was a positive influence on you.

My dad had a very positive influence on me as did my piano professor in college. There've been several people in my life who have impacted me in a positive way. One of the most influential people in the last 10 years has been my pastor's wife.

6) She is a massive Elvis fan and swoons every time she watches Blue Hawaii because he professes his love for Maile, pronounced "Miley." What movie have you watched many times?

Casablanca and Breakfast at Tiffany's.

7) In 2023, when "Flowers" was released, actor Sir Michael Gambon died. Though he distinguished himself performing Shakespeare with the Royal National Theater, he is best known for playing Dumbledore in several Harry Potter movies. Who is your favorite Harry Potter character?

Hermione. (played by Emma Watson) and Luna (played by Evanna Lynch). I also loved Minerva McGonagall who was played by the great Maggie Smith.

8) 2023 was a busy year for England's Royal Family, with the crowning of King Charles III and the publication of Prince Harry's memoir, Spare. Do you have a favorite among the Windsors?

My fave is Kate and William's daughter Charlotte.

9) Random question: Do your siblings have children? If yes, are you close to them?

yes.
My sister Joy has a son Luke who is 32.
My sister Hope has no biological children although she married a man who has 3 sons, all grown up.
My sister Jill has 2 daughters Emma (22) and Mady(16). I'm closest with Mady because she is one of my hiking buddies. But I have a good relationship with all of my nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. I'm thankful for that.

I hope you're all having a wonderful Saturday!
I'm traveling today and happy it is warmer outside!

I love the two classic movies you chose! Princess Charlotte has a very expressive little face, doesn't she? Sometimes I think I can read the "thought bubble" over her head.

Casablanca is one of my favorites too.
