Last Days of Summer Vacation!

We are back from our vacation. The Lord blessed us with perfect weather. It only rained once, in the evening, and it was only humid one day, but being on the ocean truly helped. We spent some quality time with the grandparents (my husband's folks), my sister in law and niece, and my sister and her husband joined us for the last part of the week. We are now ready to tackle the rest of the days of summer with preparing for school!
My oldest will be starting at the high school! (then, why in the world am I reading Jodi Picoult's last novel, "19 Minutes"? TO PRAY FOR OUR CHILDREN AND TEACHERS!) Anyways, the high school has an orientation program for all incoming freshmen and their parents next Wed. She will receive her homeroom assignment at that time and be given her schedule. She is taking a heavy load: Honors English 9, Honors Global History 9, Biology, French2R (regents, yes NYS still has these ridiculous exams!), Orchestra/violin, Math10R (she is a year ahead in Math), Gym/Swimming, Studio Art R. She is excited but a little nervous. Her academic advisor is a wonderful young woman whom I have had the pleasure of meeting and talking with. She is also excited as one of her good friends and she will be joining the campus Life Club which is a Youth for Christ sponsored club right at the high school! In fact, the YFC leader attends our church. As per district rules, 2 teachers must be present as well and they are born again Christians! This is an answer to prayer. The Life Club has about 30 student members, many of whom attend our church! She is also joining the Theater club. She has decided that that is enough for her first year. We agree as she also has her youth group Bible study which meets weekly and the youth group service projects which are monthly. Youth group fun and fellowship is also once a month so she will be one busy freshman.
The "baby" who keeps informing me she is no longer my baby (!) is entering 3rd grade. The exciting thing for me is that I just accepted a part time special ed teaching job with our district in one of our 6 elementary schools. My hours are perfect for me and my family. I will be working from 8:15-11:30 each morning, with a kindergarten class, teaching an autistic child. The great thing is that the school where I will be teaching is on the same schedule as my youngest daughter's school. (we have 3 elem. schools that are on the 8:15-2:45 schedule, and 3 are on the 8:45-3:15 schedule). This means afternoons are mine for housework, errands, volunteering at her school, and "me time". I will be home to get her off the bus!! Praise the Lord for His goodness!
So, around our house this week we are buying new sneakers, some new clothing, organizing closets, washing bookbags, and all the stuff that goes into the end of summer and the beginning of a new year!
Enjoy your last days of summer, everyone!

Faith,
Thanks so much for stopping by gor a tour of our schoolhouse. We are really enjoying it!

I hope that you and your kiddos will have a wonderful start to the new school year. The schools down South start so much earlier than the ones up your way, but we don't exactly have "snow days", either. Growing up in Florida I did miss quite a few days of school for "hurricane days". :)

Blessings,
Mrs. C

Thanks for stopping by! I'm gonna tell my girls about "hurricane days". They are fascinated by hurricanes as we don't get them although we did have a mild tornado when my oldest was just 5 years old. Didn't do major damage and we haven't had one since! we don't even get many snow days here in the capital region although where I grew up in the snow belt of central NY, we had plenty!
