I got this great idea from Susanne from over here.:
She told her readers that they could ask her any question, as long as it was family-friendly, and she would answer the questions in a post.
SO!! I am copying her idea and putting this out to my own readers! It's rather fun....and now that I am on summer break from teaching, I have time each morning to sit on my deck, after my quiet time, and do some blogging and finally catch up on my fave blogs!
So, ask away.......ask me anything, as long as it is "clean", family-friendly and not looking for anything too personal like specific address, etc. lol......HAVE FUN and I will try to answer most of the questions in a later post!!
and.....every couple of days, I am going to feature an idea of something you can do with your children, during these summer months, to help relieve any "I'm bored" comments you might hear! After owning, writing and editing a parent newsletter ("Child's Play") for many years (1995-2000), I have found my self adapting some of those ideas into ideas for my children who are no longer preschoolers, but pre-teen and older teen! If YOU have some ideas, please feel free to share them in my comment box....maybe yours will get posted!
CHILD'S PLAY 1
Summer Treasure Hunt
This is super easy.....even my teenager will do this with her lil sis....especially if we are visiting a new place of interest.
Take a cloth grocery bag (or paper sack) and go on a walk. Include a pen, paper or camera. Even a disposable camera is fine if you don't own a digital one.
Your goal is to find signs of summer.
Here are items that count: (some items can be picked up and placed in the bag, other items you will need to jot down or take a picture to record your findings)
- popsicle sticks or wrappers
- dragonflies (take a pic)
- butterflies (take a pic)
- lawn sprinklers (take a pic)
- dandelions
- clover (white and purple)
- daisies
- sunflowers
- various lawn ornaments (obviously you will need to take a pic of these!)
- Children playing in a pool (ask first if you can take their picture.....preferably ask the adult nearby!)
- Children swinging or climbing a slide (see above rule)
- green grass
- brown grass (sign of a summer drought!)
- beach ball
- beach umbrella
- children and/or adults on bikes
- children rollerblading
- a lemonade stand
- beach towel
- flip-flops
- beach pail/shovel
- swim suits hanging on a line
- ice cream trucks ("Mr Ding-a-Ling")
- tents, campers
Those are just some items.....
THEN: once you have developed the pictures, cut them with interesting borders and make a "summer treasure hunt" collage. Glue onto stiff cardboard or poster board. Decorate the sides with picked, dried flowers/clover or even seashells if you are at the ocean.
Display on your child's bedroom door or bulletin board!
What are some other things you can find that say "summer?"
and don't forget to ask me a question!!

I want to know, if you didn't have the job you have now, what would you like to do for a living instead? And is the job you are doing now what you wanted to be when you grew up?
You used to own a parent's newsletter? That's something new I learned about you. What else says summer? Skateboards and frisbees, cars with the top down.
OK, a deep one... what is something you've discovered about yourself while teaching kids?
So how come I'm mighty tempted to take a lick of your popsicles? (That's not my question!) Neat graphic!
I was thinking about having an "open mic" too... just haven't gotten a round two-it yet! Great idea.
Let's see... hmmm... OK... if you could go back to school, what subjects would you study? Do you think you ever will return to school? And what do you envision for your old age. There. That should keep you going for awhile! :~D
Hehe... I knew it wasn't a quick easy question! Take your time :~) I really look forward to hearing your answer :~)
