June Faves

It's Friday!! In two weeks from today, my oldest daughter will be going to her graduation rehearsal and her finals/Regents will be complete...she will officially be done with high school!  And in 2 weeks, my youngest daughter will have her first day of summer vacation.....after graduating from elementary school the day before!  Time is flying and this school year was no exception. It just went by so fast.  I cannot believe I am reviewing the list of next year's kindergarten students and saying good bye to some special little friends!

But now it's time to thank the Lord for FIVE FAVORITES from the past week......feel free to link up at Susanne's to join in.  A huge thank you to her for hosting this each week!

Here are my FIVE FAVES:

  • COCONUT CHOCOLATE ALMOND ICE CREAM!  yup..i splurged last Saturday on REAL ice cream...Hershey's....sold at a local ice cream stand at a mini golf course we like to frequent.  It was on the way home from my 12 yr old's violin solo festival in a town about 25 minutes from us.  I wanted to treat her as she did "outstanding" (that was her score..the highest NYSSMA score one can receive).  And what fun we had, watching birds flit to and fro and chatting about the upcoming summer plans and her 6th grade dance.

  • WATERMELON SPRITZERS!  I recently discovered a new cold drink recipe for summer.  It is so refreshing and pretty in large mason jars with wedges of lime.  I made a large pitcher of it for dinner one evening this week (when the outside temps were 96!) and I made it again last evening for my small group of mom-friends to enjoy while we discussed our next chapter and had some chat time.  YUM!!

  • PINK PEONIES!  My peony bushes are lush this spring!!  Maybe it's because of all the rain we had in the beginning of the season....usually I have just white peonies but this year I had a couple of pink ones!  They are just so pretty and really brighten up the front corner of my house.

  • SPRING CONCERT  My oldest daughter, Courtney, had her last high school orchestra concert on Monday evening.  What a bittersweet evening this was for us.  She made first violin section and actually placed in the 2nd row, 3rd seat in.....finally!  (for each concert, the teacher has them audition for placement).  Although she rarely practiced during her high school years, she did go to every lesson each week and has acted as orchestra librarian this past year.  It was such a delight to hear the S----High School Orchestra one more time.  And in 2 years, after Claire moves up from the junior high, we will be hearing more! (Claire has informed us she plans on staying in Orchestra!).  It is always a fave for me to see my daughters perform.

  • GIFT FROM FRIEND  My friend M gave me a gift because it caught her eye and was symbolic she says. She is a sweetie....and a member of our small group.  We had a meeting last evening and she brought me the gift (gifts is her love language so we have that in common, among other things!).  I felt funny accepting it at first....but she insisted that I open it.  The house is supposed to represent my home and the open door represents that I open up my home twice a month to host the small group.  The light inside (a tea candle) is supposed to represent our group shining the Light of Jesus and on the house is the word "faith" (my name).  How perfect!  She said she happened to see it while shopping and just couldn't resist!  I have seen her  go through a huge battle with something concerning her son and I have been honored to come alongside her, pray for and with her, and just act as a listening ear for her.  And if I ever need anything, including prayer about something, she is there for me, too.  I treasure my Christian friends from church....such a blessing from the Lord. This definitely makes my fave list!

gift from M....note the "faith" in black on the green trim of the house!

Those are just some of the things that blessed me this week.....I'm also loving the longer days...it is not getting dark until about 8:45 pm..I love that for late evening walks!

Whatever you have planned for the weekend, I wish you a good one......

HAPPY FRIDAY!

That is a sweet gift full of meaning! What a blessing a tight knit group is.

I can't believe the school year is almost done. Congrats to your girls on all their accomplishments.

And what?! No recipe for that yummy sounding drink? I'll just have to bike ride over for a glass of it then. ;v)

That ice cream sounds delicious and the watermelon spritzer looks so good. Can you share the recipe for it? Also, congratulations to both your daughters on their achievements!

ok ladies: the watermelon spritzer is super simple. Take a fresh, half watermelon, cut into chunks and puree in blender. Pour in a 2 quart pitcher and add enough PLAIN seltzer water to fill to top of pitcher. Stir, and add slices of fresh limes.OR...if you don't have fresh watermelon, do the same thing minus the blender by pouring in a half carton of Dole Watermelon juice....follow the rest of the instructions. It also works nicely if you add fresh mint leaves!

What a sweet-and perfect-gift your friend gave you! Congrats to your girls on their musical accomplishments. Enjoy your summer! Mine has just started even though our weather is grey and foggy-typical June Gloom around here.

I love reading your posts. You are so proud of your girls, and it makes me smile to read about them.
I love anything coconut, I'll bet that ice cream was fantastic - and that spritzer looks like a prefect summer treat!
