Well, today is the first day of summer......and if my summer goes the way my day has been, we are in big trouble! whew...what a day..but that's for another post.
I want to say a huge THANK YOU to Callapiddar Days for hosting the Spring Reading Thing Challenge. And to my blogging friend, Susanne, from Living to Tell the Story for encouraging me to participate!
My original list had 15 books, 5 of which are non-fiction (Christian) ones. I read 2 of the non-fiction and am in the middle of a 3rd one. The other 2 were not available at our towne library so I am waiting or might buy one with a book gift card I have received from a student!
However, I only read 6 of the fiction novels on the original list because, again, I couldn't get ahold of the other 4 novels I wanted to read this spring. So....I am now on 2 waiting lists at the library and hopefully will get to those this summer.
I did read 5 other books not on the original list and have done book reviews for them. All of the books I read were very good.....there were 2 that I must say were favorites.
My absolute favorite book this past spring was Run by Ann Patchett. This book was amazing. You can read the book review for that here. I also enjoyed the Christian fiction book, Her Mother's Dream by Francine Rivers, that I finished a couple of nights ago. You can find that review here.
I enjoyed Water for Elephants as well.....and of course the very best non fiction book I read was NOT the book about Vermont Hiking Trails, but Ann Voskamp's from A Holy Experience blog, titled One Thousand Gifts. In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I've been using it was a teaching tool for my small group and now there are a couple of my mom-friends are reading it!
And if you haven't read Little Bee yet, that book is highly recommended. My oldest daughter read it first as I had given it to her at Christmas time. It's deep, moving, disturbing in places...and will make you thankful for the freedoms we enjoy here in North America.
I enjoy reading so I will continue to read good books over the summer...and I have much more free time on my hands......
Did you participate in the Spring Reading Challenge? Do you like to read?
What are your favorite genres?? Do you prefer secular or Christian fiction?
Do you have any books you want to read this summer??

I've already got my list together for summer. LOL. No non-fictions so far, though. It's a mix of Christian and secular authors. Nothing too heavy.
You've done well with your spring reading. I still want to know which book has so many holds on it. LOL.
Susanne: the one with all the holds on it is the latest Jodi Picoult book "Sing Me Home" it is a bit "controversial" due to subject matter...but her books often are...
Great job. It's sad when the books we want so much are always on hold. I've heard a lot of great things about Little Bee. I too enjoyed Water for Elephants. I have a lot of books on my shelves at home and would love to get at leat 1/3 read this summer. I like all genre's, both secular and Christian. I would like to recommend a book to you. Quest for the Nail Prints by Don Furr. So far it is one of the best Christian fiction books I've read this year. Hope to see you for the Fall Into Reading Challenge.

Thanks for the suggestion Sandra!! and I should have even more time in the fall for some reading...the oldest will be off to college and the youngest will be in 3 ballet classes plus 2 school clubs...i'll be the only one home in late afternoons!
Great job! I have been curious about Little Bee after seeing it at the bookstore, so it's good to know you recommend it. Thanks for being part of SRT '11!
