July Fave Fives #4

Friday Fave Five time......to reflect back on the week and share some moments that were favorites.  Thank you to Susanne for hosting....join in and head to her blog for directions.

  • HOUSEWORK!  yes this makes my fave...with the high heat we are experiencing this week in NYS, I've stayed inside to nurse my mouth from an emergency root canal that was done on Monday and Wednesday, and to keep cool in the air conditioning.  I caught up on all my housework and even began an organizing project between the kitchen and basement.  I hope to finish by tomorrow afternoon so next week we can start to visit some of the lakes to the north of us.  Normally I prefer the windows open but the high humidity has just been too stifling.  I know it's been like that for many of you, too!  This little girl on a bench is a gift from my mom.....I set her up one evening after giving my plants a good, long drink! I've enjoyed organizing my home and yard and so thankful for the central air!!

  • LOCAL, HOMEGROWN VEGGIES!  I bought several kinds of fresh, locally-grown fresh veggies this past week......we've enjoyed the corn on the cob and a zucchini-squash-tomato-basil dish that my husband especially enjoys.  There's nothing like fresh, locally-grown veggies!  I buy them from one of our local farmers' markets on the other side of town...it only takes me about 10 minutes to get there and I always spend a half hour browsing through their flowers, country gifts, fresh veggies and fruits/berries and sometimes order lunch from their delicious deli. It is definitely one of my fave summer and autumn places to shop!  and at this time of year, almost all of their veggies are grown on a local farm!

Dave, Princess and Ballerina in Paris
  • HUGS!  Hugs from my daughters & husband this week just seemed extra special. They know it's been a tough week for me.    Because it's been so darn hot and humid, we've been inside most of the time...especially in the evenings.  We've had fun watching an old home movie from when the Princess was 3 and the Ballerina wasn't even born.....reading in the evenings, chatting about college, talking with Daddy Dave about his writing (he is trying to publish a short story), and just hanging out eating ice cream together.....being a family who knows that in just 4 short weeks from today the Princess will move into her dorm.  I am treasuring all these evening hugs!
  • THIS BOOK!  I discovered this author on Tuesday.  I went with my oldest to the library while the other daughter had a ballet class.  I've been enjoying lots of reading time because my dentist did some oral surgery on my mouth, twice, this week and he instructed me to REST and HEAL! So each day, I have sat with my cup of coffee or some iced tea and just read. It's a thick book (539 pages) but I hope to finish it by the end of the weekend.  It's an excellent story set in Montana during the 1980's.

  • CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING!  It doesn't really get all that humid here in our part of NYS, not like the Central NY area where I grew up and lived until age 18.  The Mohawk Valley was always VERY hazy, hot and humid, especially during August.  However, this past week here in the Capital Region of NY, where I now live, we have had temps of up to 99 (yesterday) with a heat index of 104.  and that is HOT for us.  Combine that with the high humidity and although it's only been for 3 days, it has been high enough to be uncomfortable.  I am most thankful for my central air during the afternoons and night times.  I don't mind the heat in the morning but as soon as that sun gets around to the front of our house (and our bedroom!), I definitely crank up that air!  It helps all of us sleep!

What about you??  Do you live where it's been hazy, hot and humid??

What are you enjoying this week....do you have a fave moment??

Please share!

Keep cool and have a great weekend!!

I heard and saw it in the News this unbelievable heatwave you have ! I used to visit my aunt in Madison/Wisc. when she was still alive and there the summers were always very hot and humid but over 100 F, that's really a lot.

I like housework when it's done, too! :0) Enjoy those hugs, Faith. That veggie dish sounds great. Hope your mouth is healing.

To answer last week's question, we were in the very lower Catskills, near Bear Mountain. Crank up that AC and enjoy it!

It actually was hot and humid during these last couple of weeks though definitely not getting to 99*F. Wow, I was melting at 87*! LOL.

Hope your mouth heals quickly. It's nice that your on holidays and not having to go to work right now.

I know your going to get as much time with your girl as you can right now. I know exactly how you feel. How far away is going? Mine went 7 hours away! She's coming home next week though so I'll be soaking in a daughter's company and hugs too!

I definitely like the 'concept' of housework and I do enjoy a clean house. Organizing and decluttering are what I love most. Really :)
I hope your mouth heals quickly--discomfort AND high humidity aren't a good match.
We experienced enough humidity in Southeast Asia in the 80s to last a lifetime. Fortunately, where we live now, we seldom have any humidity to speak of.
I'd love to hike in the ADKs some day--we enjoy the coastal mountains here. Several years ago when we still lived in Oregon, we hiked parts of the Pacific Crest Trail.

I hope you mouth is feeling better by now. We have had temps at like 97 here but with our humidity it feels like 115, so yea its been pretty hot and our central air is trying its best to keep up, but it just really not working all that great. We grown a huge garden every year and we have been enjoying lots of fresh veggies, our corn and tomatoes are almost ready and I can't wait. I do have a FFF post but I need to upload some pictures from my laptop at home (I'm using my work computer right now) before I can publish it. I also have a catch up post ready as well but it needs pictures uploaded to it as well. Well feel better soon. God Bless
Michelle

Hope your mouth heals soon - glad that you can enjoy some reading time in the ac in the meantime. Not to forget ice-cream with the fam! One of my favourites.

Fresh veggies are one of the nicest parts of summer - our garden is slow this year but we've been enjoying some from other gardens.

Stay cool!

Oh, I'm sorry you had to have a root canal! I hope you're feeling fine now.

It has been horrid here, hasn't it? We hit 106 degrees here in the Hudson Valley today!

I did enjoy some nice steamed corn on the cob, though. The fresh, local veggies are a treat!

I can't imagine getting housework done while recuperating from a root canal! But I can imagine reading!

It's been very hot here -- the heat index has felt up in the hundreds some days. I am glad for AC, too!

Hope your mouth feels better soon.

It is normally hot (100's)with low humidity here in NoCal.However, it has been unseasonably cool with lots of days with no air conditioner. Just the way I like it.

I wrote out my fave five moments so I won't retell them here.

I pray that you heal quickly, Faith. And I must say you are amazing to get all that housework and organizing done despite oral surgery and high humidity/heat. So glad that you are taking some time to heal and are reading.

Have another week with lots of healing time.

With all the amazing heat in your neck o' the woods, it's not surprising all the AC faves :-) Glad you got so much done, too!
