Spring Break Faves

This past week has been Spring Break for us here in my part of NY.  Which means the schools are closed. Which means I didn't have to go in to the classroom!

It's been a fun, relaxing (for the most part) week.  I can definitely find 5 favorite blessings that God brought into my life.  Some are just simple things but it's the simple things that are sometimes so special!

  • EASTER!! My favorite Christian holiday....because of what our Redeemer did...and because of New Life...and new life in spring....new beginnings...and the oldest daughter being home from college for the long weekend....and time with my husband chatting, time with one of my younger sisters (Joy) and her son Luke who visited us for dinner...she brought yummy desserts and I cooked the ham... and the joy on the girls faces as they dove into the baskets at breakfast....family, fellowship, and fun chocolates are always a fave!

  • MOM-DAUGHTER DATES!  Claire and I had 2 fun days together this week.  On Monday we drove out to Boston to take Courtney back to campus and stopped at the outlets in the Berkshire Mountains on the way home followed by a delicious dinner here at our fave restaurant in that town.  And then on Thursday we drove up to Saratoga (about a 20 min drive north of us) to visit the National Museum of Dance and see the EN POINTE exhibit!  Claire entered an old pair of pointe shoes into an art contest they were having this past winter. She didn't win the contest but she was thrilled that her shoes were selected as part of the exhibit! We also toured the rest of the museum and especially liked seeing all the costumes from famous ballets from the American Ballet Theatre. We stopped for ice cream/frozen yogurt on the way home.    Spending time with my youngest is always a fave.....
NOTE:  if you are in the Saratoga area this summer, stop in to the museum..the EN POINTE exhibit runs til November!

  • SPRING CLEANING!  I did major spring cleaning....thorough dusting of baseboards, ceilings, furniture, behind the dining room armoire, etc. while home this week.  I'm not doing the windows until the end of May when the yellow pollen dies down and I still have the girls' bedrooms to finish sometime next weekend.  It feels so good to have done a thorough cleaning and purging!
the dining room. is thoroughly clean!

  • GARDENING! Dave bought me 4 tulip plants for Easter.  On Wednesday, after cleaning for the most of the day, I decided to spend some time in the front flower bed.  I raked out all the old mulch, trimmed some new growth (chives!!) and put in 2 of the plants, dividing a couple of them.  I still have 2 plants left to put in and am hoping to do that later today.  It felt so good to  put down some fresh mulch, get new flowers in, and tidy up the bed for more new growth and mulch.  And Dave surprised me by buying 3 large bags of my favorite mulch! He even said he had plans to make me a flower bed area on the corner of our deck that faces the kitchen window and faces south! He even liked my idea of growing some of our own fresh herbs again.... I might even attempt cherry tomatoes!  Deck gardening is tough due to space but I think we'll make it work! Being outside, in nature, is always a fave with me......

  • FRESH, SLICED VALENCIAS!  I love this type of Orange!! I especially like them sliced in the morning for breakfast alongside oatmeal or whole wheat toast and I really like them in iced water.  This really quenched my thirst after working in the sun and cleaning the house this week!  Fresh fruit is always a fave.....

Sounds like you've got energy to spare! Wanna come on over and give me hand? I make a mean cup of coffee! ;v)

It's so nice to have our girls home for Easter, isn't it? I always have such a hard time watching her drive away again. But it sounds like your week was wonderful.

I thought about planting some flowers this past week but we had some frost warnings, so I deiced to wait. I'm not an avid gardener, but I do have some flower pots I like to refill each year.

Sounds like you had a lovely Easter! It's meaning makes it a favorite holiday here as well.

I've been on spring break too but I was much lazier than you--I admire your getting your spring cleaning done.
Those days out with your girls sound wonderful.
Gardening in the spring is so refreshing. If you're looking for the BEST cherry tomatoes to grow, try Sungold--they are marvelous, our favorites!
