This week flew by!
And summer vacation is winding down.....in 2 weeks from today we will be back at school......! I'm not ready to go back to work yet!!
I'm linking up at Susanne's to participate in this writing exercise.....it's important to look for the ways God chooses to bless us.....to find things to be thankful for or that are gifts from God to us......He surrounds us with gifts, whether the big events or simple things....
....let's peek into the week!
Courtney and Claire listen to Tchaikovsky! |
- ORCHESTRA MUSIC UNDER THE STARS! Last Saturday evening, the 4 of us met my sister Joy at SPAC to hear the Philadelphia Orchestra play an All-Tchaikovsky program. Keep in mind that I was an undergraduate Music major (piano and voice), my husband sings and played trombone years ago, and both of my daughters sing and play violin. So...we tend to really enjoy classical music. Because of Claire's free lawn pass that includes a free adult until she is 18, and because Courtney is a college student, we only had to pay full price for a lawn ticket for Dave!! (Courtney's was discounted) Dave and I had beach chairs and everyone else wanted to sit/lie on the quilt. It was chilly that evening so we were happy to have 2 extra blankets with us. The music was phenomenal AND a bonus was that the NYC Ballet principal dancers performed 2 pas de deux' while the orchestra played. (Swan Lake and The Nutcracker). Claire was thrilled! The evening ended with the 1812 Overture and live cannons!! This was followed by a marvelous fireworks display because it was the end of the classical season in Saratoga. We've already made plans to go again next summer!

- FROZEN YOGURT! Tuesday evening after dinner we all decided on a spontaneous dessert trip to our new TCBY in town. I had only been there once before, earlier in the summer. The girls had been a few times with friends and with each other. It was a lot of fun deciding which fro yo to eat and what toppings to put on. I had chocolate with raspberries....YUMMY! It was a fun evening!

- FITNESS BALL! The chiro was showing me a stretch for my lower back to help get whatever is pressing on my sciatic nerve to heal up.....he suggested I get one so I could do them at home....I was all set to run down to Target but when checking out, the receptionist, whom I know from church, told me that she could sell me one from the office and pump it up for me!! That was a HUGE blessing.....yes, the pain is still in my back/leg but I think it is slowly getting better...I hope to be pain free soon!! for now..this fitness ball is great! I plan on incorporating other stretches into a daily workout routine once this sciatica is gone! I even did a devotional about it!
Claire, our friend Lynne, Courtney |
- DINNER ON DECK! Wednesday evening, our single friend from church came over for dinner. She has been kind of like a "mentor" for Courtney. She's my age but has always been single and is a very generous person. Her testimony is amazing and when Courtney joined some other older teens for the Christmas Choir a couple years ago, she took Courtney "under her wing". I had someone like that when I was an older teen girl, too, and I know how important it is for teens to have another adult, who is not a parent, to talk with! It was a gorgeous evening....we ate, sat around and chatted into the dark with just candles lit......It's such a blessing to be able to have church friends over for dinner!

- EVENING RAINBOW! After dishes were cleared away and we were enjoying coffee/drinks on the deck, my oldest looked up and saw this rainbow which was odd because it hadn't been raining!! We all marveled at God's promise to us.......and we chatted about His Covenant for a bit.......all of a sudden it went to an entire arch! It was the perfect ending to a glorious evening........
That wraps it up! By this time next week, my oldest will be moved into her dorm again for her 2nd year of college........we are going out a day early to enjoy some time on the North Shore of Boston and then moving her in the next day......
I hope you all have a marvelous weekend!!

Chiropractors are wonderful! Mine did great things for my neck : ) Love frozen yogurt. What a pretty rainbow!
Your evening under the stars listening to music sounds wonderful. How appropriate to end with cannons and the 1812 overture!
The concert under the starts sounds just delightful.
So does your friend from church. It's so great when people invest in others' lives.
We're working on getting our patio set up to eat out there when it gets cooler.
I always love to see rainbows, but to have one without rain is really unusual.
That concert in the park sounds fantastic--and to get ballet thrown in too!
I'm working toward thinking about school, even doing some work, but still holding on to summer! I'm just not ready, either!
I did not know how musical your family was -- what a great way to enjoy music together. Good fives this week to bless you, from mentoring friends to gorgeous evenings.
The orchestra music sounds amazing. We aren't too far from Philly but haven't ventured to the city much...
Your friend sounds amazing...what a wonderful influence. Also so glad to hear that a "single" is included in family time!
What a nice family thing to do. They had Shakespeare in the park here all summer but I never made it.
Having friends over is definitely one of my favorite things. It's wonderful that there is someone in Courtney's life like that!
