Spring Break Faves 2013

It's Friday again and I've been on Spring Break since last Friday.

And now the rest of the school year will seem to zip right on by.

And this past week has meant TIME to do some of the things I enjoy and work on projects that only get done when I'm not in the classroom.

I definitely have found FIVE FAVES from this past week! How about you?

Join in with us by linking up at Susanne's and sharing 5 blessings from your week!

  • TIME TO READ!  I've had time to just sit. And read. And drink coffee at a leisurely pace. and read. I finished a novel and am almost done with another one and had time to really delve in to the Bible Study book I"m teaching from for my small group.  I love to read and having the extra time in the early morning and late afternoons has been a real blessing.

  • TIME WITH CLAIRE!  On Saturday, we headed out to MA to spend 2 nights on the North Shore and visit with our college daughter for the Easter weekend.  She had to work on Saturday and wanted to hang with her friends that evening, so after a dinner out at this place, Claire enjoyed the hotel pool. She had it all to herself while I worked on a word puzzle and watched her swim.  How nice it was to just have this fun time with my 14 yr old and for her to relax with no homework or test cramming! It is a blessing to be able to get away and the real blessing was that we received a discount on the hotel stay due to booking through an online site!

HAPPY EASTER!
  • TIME TOGETHER!  On Easter Sunday morning, we picked up Courtney (2nd from left) from her dorm and went to the church she attends while away at Gordon College.  We met her pastor and his wife and the worship leader who was a really vibrant woman full of life and love for Jesus.  What a blessed time we had during this service and in the fellowship before and after.  It is a blessing to see our daughter grow spiritually and be surrounded by caring Christians both on and off campus!

  • TIME WITH FAMILY!  After a delicious brunch at this historic establishment, we took the advice of Courtney's roommate's family and visited (with Dave's parents who had met us for brunch) the art and maritime museum in Salem. We weren't allowed to take photos of the Asian art and other exhibits inside, but we had so much fun exploring.  We only had about an hour as we got a late start but we saw enough to feel like we accomplished something new and read a lot of the history behind the art and sculptures. It was a nice time with Dave's folks and we were happy they could drive up from the south shore area to meet us. What a blessing it is to spend time with family and seeing new sights!

downtown Boston
  • TIME IN BOSTON!  Courtney didn't have classes on Monday so we checked out of the hotel, picked her up at the dorm and took the T in to the city. We walked from the Government Center station to the Commons and through it to the Public Gardens. I had only seen the gardens on one side, many years ago, so this time we walked all the way around and through. We all love the city of Boston. I first visited when I was a first year teacher way back in 1988.  I fell in love with Boston and it truly is my favorite city in the Northeast.  Dave of course grew up just south of the city and the girls love it too. We all have our favorite sections. We walked to Quincy Market for lunch and ate outdoors. It was a gorgeous, warm-in-the-sun spring day.  At one point, away from the Wharf, we didn't need jackets!  We then spent some time on the wharf watching the seals play and then walked to the North End to tour this place and buy a pastry at this place! It was a huge blessing to have a 60 degree (F) day, with full sun and time to enjoy the city with all of us together.
And now with the start of the weekend, we have a wine and cheese party event at our house tonite with our next door neighbors.  I hope that whatever plans you have for your weekend, that you will find the time to spend in quiet reflection on the things that God has blessed you with and has done in your own life.  He is faithful and true and offers us hope and peace.

"Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations" ~Deuteronomy 7:9~

Happy Friday, everyone!

you were in my stomping grounds! I used to live about a 4 minute walk from the PEM! Now we are in Nahant and can see the Boston skyline from our house. Spending time with your children is the best! Especially when the are older and not available as often. I am your newest follower!

I love the kind of weekend you had! Time with family especially those kids who are with us all the time anymore, exploring historical stuff, eating out, walks. Your girls look so happy to be together!

Sounds like a busy and fun week!

We've only taken one family trip to Boston, primarily because hotels near the subway are so expensive. We mostly walked the Freedom Trail, but I remember quite a few of the sites you mentioned.

I'm glad you had so much fun and family time!

Melissa! I left you a comment on your own post about where to stay that is cheaper than being in the city proper and also near T stations :)

What a lovely break! It's so good to have both time to rest and read and reflect but also time to explore and get together and do new things as well.
