We are just about to the half way point in the winter season. The first day of spring (the official start to the season) is March 20th this year. I am SOOO ready to say goodbye to snow, mud, slush, ice, bitter cold, grey skies and indoor activities.
But...this past week brought many things to be thankful for, despite the bitter cold winds and the frozen, crusty snow. I'm taking a moment to share five of those things along with other members of the FFF community. Join in by linking up with Susanne from over here.
FIVE FAVES
- NO NEED TO REPORT! That was the message when I called in last weekend to find out if I had to actually go and serve for a jury duty summons I received. Praise God, I did NOT have to go down to the city and serve and could go in to the classroom all week. Having a sub work with the emotionally disturbed boy that I do would have thrown him completely off. I'm so thankful I could go in to work! That's a true blessing in my opinion. I'm not a fan of jury duty. God's favor was with me for sure.

- FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT! Last Saturday evening, all 3 of us were home. I was really missing our college gal so was thankful that at least ballerina was home. It had been one of those days with errands, housework, paperwork, small group preparations, laundry. I was ready to just sit on the couch with the family and watch a Netflix movie. So, we chose this 1970s film. I was only 10 when this movie came out in 1970, and wasn't allowed to watch it until I was a 9th grader. So, I told Claire, since she is now a 9th grader, that she could see it. My husband was only 4 when this movie came out! And he had NEVER seen it! Of course, those of you who know this flick, know how fun it is. And how horribly sad. What a tear jerker. It was so much fun sharing it with 2 of the people I love the most.
- TIRE SERVICE! We came home from church Sunday and noticed that my car, which sits in the garage, had a flat tire, rear left. Dave saw the screw immediately and started to change the tire to the spare while I called the tire place we typically do business with. We discovered they are no longer open on Sundays. We then contacted the 2nd tire place in town where we have done business in the past. Not open on Sundays. Finally I checked online (thank God for google!) and discovered a tire place right on the main drag in town that has Sunday hours. The reviews were excellent. We called, they said bring the tire right in, we only waited 5 minutes although there were 2 other cars being worked on, they patched the tire, the price was not bad (less than $20) and we were on our way. Glory to God because the service was excellent with very reasonable prices so we have found a new tire place. (they also do brake work). Little surprises like this are blessings from God for sure!
- SMOOTH WEEK! My husband had to fly down to Atlanta very early on Tuesday morning and then up to Ohio. He was supposed to be back Wednesday afternoon. At the time of this writing (late Thursday afternoon) he is still stuck in Ohio due to the Atlanta storm. He will fly to Atlanta later today as there is a flight with enough crew members. He is then supposed to fly to Hartford Ct and sometime today fly back here to Albany. Let's hope so! The blessing is that things have run smoothly here at home...Claire was able to catch the school bus all week for her mid-terms and I've been able to keep things going with her extracurricular activities and housework after work. I'm tired but thankful that God has kept my husband safe and things running smoothly here at home without him. That storm really threw the southern folk into a tizzy! Am praying my husband can get that flight out of Atlanta and on to Connecticut tomorrow morning!
- SALES! I needed a couple of new items of clothing for work. I'm thankful I found a few things on major clearance at a couple of favorite stores. That is always a blessing!
That wraps up the week.
We are now into February and I'm counting the days until the school break for Winter Recess. I hope to get in a couple of hikes and a nice visit with my dad.
Have a restful weekend, everyone. and THINK SPRING!!

yay! for no jury duty! ugh I don't like it either.
I don't think I have ever seen Love Story either. I was 1 when it came out :)
More places are closing up around here on Sundays! I think that is an awesome step in the right direction. Not always convenient but keeping the sabbath should be a priority.
who-hoo for smooth weeks and sales!
Looks very Valentinish around here! :) Nice!
I've never served on a jury, and wouldn't mind doing my civic duty, but it does seem like such a hassle. Glad that you were able to get your tire fixed and didn't need a new one. I hope your hubby doesn't get stranded and makes it back home safely. Enjoy your weekend!
I am so looking forward to spring, too.
I'm glad you got out of jury duty to work with the boy that you usually do.
What great service on the tire! It's such a blessing to find a good place for car issues.
I'm glad everything went smoothly while your husband was away. Hope he gets home soon!
Love those sales! Glad to hear your week went pretty smoothly and your hubby got back home! Wow, you are blessed, to have been passed over for jury duty. Have a great week ahead, Faith.
Weather certainly messes up our schedules, huh? I hope Dave is home now. My grandson had several snow/cold days at his school in Ohio--he didn't like it as he'd rather be in school.
I'm glad your tire issue was solved so quickly. Hate those flats...
Hello Faith,
I hope your hubby made it home okay.
That winter weather sure impacted a LOT of folks.
Awesome that you found work clothes and on SALE.
Love Story! I haven't seen it since it first came out. I do remember liking it and crying! How fun that you 3 had a family movie night.
Have a great week.
I've never done jury duty but I was called for it once - many years ago - bt we were moving so I also got ot of it. Good thing as I had very little children at that time.
I remember that movie - I think I was a young teenager. I thought it was very sad and romantic. I probably need to watch it again.
Hope your dh got home safely!
I've been summoned many times in the last 5 years and actually got to serve as an alternate juror once- it was fascinating to do my civic duty and see the legal system working (and the courthouse was just a few blocks from my office so I could still get a few hours of work in each day). Glad you were able to avoid the hassle, though!
How wonderful to have a family movie night! I do so love to snuggle up with my kiddos under mounds of blankets and watch something fun. Though that one looks sad- maybe I'll watch it an evening this week.
Hope your hubby is home safely by now. :o)
