Still Small Sounds of Silence

sounds of silence all around..............

............bitter cold arctic air............

.....................frozen lakes......................

.....................winter white snow crunching beneath boot-clad feet.......

sounds of bluejays ripping through the morning stillness...........
gathering seeds in to their beaks and squawking their good mornings while jostling for a spot at the feeder among the cardinal friends, the nuthatches patiently waiting in the bare branched tree...............

I gaze at this photo above of a favorite village in a favorite part of my beloved mountains to the north.........

.............and I long for those hot, still days for long hikes in the deep woods.......and the scent of pines and wood smoke rising in the hills behind the lake............and boats adrift on the waters, swimmers splashing, children singing, parades rumbling by, families cheering, campers waving, hikers climbing..............

and I think how much more silent it is in winter.

and I think how much more silent my afternoons have become.

Time to meditate.  Time to reflect on things from the past, and things into my future as I think on things present.........

Time to sit.  And be still.  and know God.

Time to appreciate the beauty around me............ all that winter brings.

That fresh fallen snow reminding me of the pure clean soul after Jesus wiped it clean with His blood........my salvation........from a Savior.............

the stillness that comes over me when I reflect on the people, the friends, who have taught me Truth....and Hope........and Love............

the answered prayers and unanswered ones that still burst forth from my lips........

to His ears............

and those still small sounds of silence where I can hear that still small Voice that beckons.......

to come.....and be filled......

filled to the brim.......with His Love......

for it's in that stillness...

where  I find that Love.

Glad that you are able to have that cushion of quiet time and reflection in your afternoons. Sounds like you are really enjoying it!

Beautiful! I think you are right - it is more silent in the winter when we are all hunkered down in our cozy homes.

Making time for silence is soooo important!

"For in that stillness..."
It is truly in the quiet that I best hear God, understand what He has for me, see His creation. I remember when I lived where it snowed in the winter and when I would have a day off of work due to a 'snow day." I took those days seriously and in pleasure to set out on my cross-country skis. Because there would be no traffic, most every street would be still. Because of where I lived, the forest beckoned and I headed that way. I would ski slowly and enjoy the crispness of the day. The sun may come out and warm my face. God was in that place and I took notice. Just writing those few things takes me deeper into the woods, into the place of quiet. I could write all afternoon here, but won't! Thank you for reposting this on Leah's as I love you words and the place that God has taken me just now through them.
