Last Week of Summer Faves

It's the last week of summer!  The first day of Autumn is Monday Sept 23rd this year.....I'm loving the weather we've been having here in eastern NY. It's been downright perfect!

The weather has been great, but the past week has been tough.  But God is always good, and all the time God is good.  So we can give thanks daily, even if it takes a bit longer or we have to dig deeper to find things to be grateful for.

I'm sharing Five of my Faves and then linking up at Susanne's site where others participate as well.  Head on over to see what to do!

  • MOVIE NIGHT:  Dave and I were both in physical pain Saturday evening.  He had hurt his shoulder doing a roof repair and I tweaked my back (I have degenerative disc disease with 3 herniated discs on top of Lyme arthritis) lifting a heavy load of laundry and have been dealing with sciatica pain all week.  So we decided to watch this fictionalized movie based on the real Agatha Christie's disappearance.  It was excellent and a nice way to relax together on the couch. I'm thankful we had an evening to just relax!

  • LAKE TIME!  I went to the early service on Sunday as Dave was working both church services (Production).  He wanted to do some stuff around the house so I said I was heading to the lake for a couple of hours of sun and rest.  I brought my lunch, my book and my beach chair. Unfortunately, by Sunday afternoon, I was having difficulty walking due to the sciatica so I didn't get to walk the nature trail.  I'm thankful I had a nice time in the sun reading and when I walked to the bathrooms, I went past the flower gardens and snapped a few pics.  I'm thankful for God's beauty in the midst of pain.

  • HERBAL TEA:  after dinner on a chilly late summer evening when I don't want caffeine, I like this herbal tea.  The cinnamon-vanilla flavor is subtle..it's more cinnamon than vanilla and I love that.  It's a good tea for if you have a headache, too.  I'm thankful there are good herbal tea options at the stores where I shop.

  • CHIROPRACTIC CARE:  Oh my.  I've had two chiropractic appointments this week for my sciatic pain/low back disc problem.  Not only did she adjust my pelvic area and give me 10 minutes of electric stim massage, but she also gave me several minutes of the hypervolt therapy.  It's like a deep massage for stiffness and inflammation.  It felt amazing. I had never needed this before and I'm hoping she uses it again next week.  It really helped!  I'm thankful for a chiropractic team that is a bit different from other ones...they are actually using cutting edge techniques and her husband (the owner and main chiropractor in the practice) actually now teaches at the medical college to train others in his methods. I 'm also thankful our health insurance gives me 30 visits a year.  I just might need them all this time!

  • BACKYARD READING:  Just about every day this week after work and errands, I would come home, change, and grab the ice pack for my back, along with my book and head outdoors to sit in the sunshine and relax.  The chiropractor won't let me do any kind of fitness routine right now. She said "ice and rest".  I really needed this time in the sun to relax and de-stress.  It's just about killing me that I can't power walk or run.  She won't even let me do yoga or fitness ball stretches. She said I'm in the acute phase of sciatica and to wait until at least the next visit with her.  I'm thankful I can at least relax and read!

That wraps up my week.  I hope you enjoy the weekend as we all say good-bye to summer!

Oh wow. I am so sorry you are in so much pain. And for you, I can't imagine not being able to walk or hike! (I would be so frustrated.) I love that you turned it around and enjoyed your reading at the lake and in the back garden.
That tea sounds yummy! I like peppermint and chamomile teas.

I'm so sorry about the pain you and your husband have been having this week. I'm glad the chiropractic treatment helped, and I hope you both feel better soon. Your time at the lake and backyard reading sound fun. I had not heard of that movie--sounds good!

I can't believe that it is seriously the last week of summer. Where did it go?

Thanks for mentioning the Agatha Christie movie. I see that it is on Netflix. It is now on my list.

So sorry to hear about the pain that you and your husband are in. Praying that this week is pain-free for the both of you.

Looking for a beauty in the midst of pain is a helpful way to live life. Thanks for the reminder. Those flower gardens captured my attention. I'm glad I got to see them, too, because of you.

What a treat and a blessing that your chiropractic care is so cutting edge and helpful. I wonder if the electric stim massage and hyper volt therapy would help my shoulder? I will call around to chiropractors in my area to see.

Have a great week, Faith.

I'm inspired by your looking for blessings in the midst of your pain and frustration. Sciatica is no joke, it is awful. Your chiropractic team sounds good.

Oh I hope you will be feeling better soon. I missed hearing about which trails you hiked. I would love a chance to relax in my backyard but the entire house is being re-sided and all of the windows are being replaced. We rent so we don’t have to pay for it but the backyard is filled with every kind of tool you can imagine.
