2020 Goals

I haven't made resolutions in years.  Literally years. As in like 30+ years.  Why?  Because I'm more goal oriented.

The word "resolution" is defined first as "a firm decision to do or not to do something".  That's too constricting for me.

A goal though....that's something attainable.  The definition is "the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result".

See how much more positive that word is??

A resolution, to me, is something you state that you are either going to do or not do.  For example "this year I will drink less coffee".  (how much is less, though???)

But a goal about caffeine usage is more attainable I think.  My example:  "I will cut down on caffeine by drinking only 2 cups of coffee in the morning and concentrate on drinking water the rest of the day."

"I will lose weight" (an example of a resolution).  Well, what if you don't??  Will you see yourself as a failure??

The goal would be:  "I'm going to move my body every day in some kind of cardio routine" (biking, treadmill, running, power walking, aerobics, jump-roping)

The result?  you will most likely lose weight AND increase heart health by decreasing your bad cholesterol.  That's success.

Anyways...that's why I set goals.  More attainable.

Here are mine for 2020:

Personal/Social/Emotional/Relational Goals

  • Hike 10 new-to-me trails by the beginning of June
  • Climb 2 High Peaks by the end of Autumn
  • Incorporate a work-out 5 days a week to increase my heart rate
  • Be intentional with getting together with my friends or with other couples
  • attend 2 art exhibits with my oldest daughter /husband
  • Less time on social media (read more books, watch movie classics with Dave, play piano, coffee dates, lunch dates, dates with Dave)
  • attend at least one workshop related to special education that isn't required by my employer.
  • continue eating more healthful food/plant-based foods and less refined sugar foods
DREAM:  Climb Mt Marcy before November (NY's highest mountain)

Spiritual/Soul Goals

  • Meditate/pray more (the specific goal is to engage in this 6x a week preferably while also doing some yoga moves)
  • complete the study of all the major prophets
DREAM:  go on a retreat

We'll see how I'm doing......I'll assess my self in June and then again at the end of December 2020!

Hi Faith! I love your goals! Good choices all! I also love the way your defined and explained resolutions vs. goals. As you know, I am more of a goal person too. Hope you have a great weekend!

I had the same thought occur to me a couple of days before the new year because I never have made‘resolutions’ either. We have similar goals!

I never make resolutions but then again I am also a horrible goal setter. Maybe I need to sit down and consider why.
