WEIRD WEATHER FAVES

Friday!

My husband returns very late tonight from Guatemala and my oldest daughter volunteered to leave her apartment at 11:15 pm and go pick him up at the airport for me!  So that's a true blessing for sure!

Let's find other blessings in the past week....things that made me smile and say "Thank You, God". This was a weird weather week here in eastern NY and I think we had winter, then spring, then winter again within hours!   But there were favorite blessings that came into my week for sure. I share FIVE of these FAVES with other bloggers and we all link up at our host's site Living to Tell the Story.

new spring growth!

  • NEW GROWTH:  Last Friday aftenroon, after my power walk, I noticed our front flower bed has several tulip leaves shooting up. I was quite surprised as this year they are early by about 3 weeks!  It was quite mild so I'm guessing with the warmer temps and sunshine, they just poked up through all that dead mulch.  I'm thankful for the spots of green I've been seeing.

  • FRIEND FOR DINNER!  My hiking friend Gerri came over for dinner Saturday evening and the reason this makes my fave list is mainly the good conversation we had  about hikes, and catching up with one another, and the food I prepared.  I made blackened salmon, a huge tossed salad, and garlic toast.  It was so good!  I'm thankful for good friends, good food and the fellowship.

snowstorm 4 March Saturday

  • KINDNESS! Our area of NYS received 5 inches of heavy, wet snow overnight Friday into Saturday morning. All of a sudden spring was gone and winter was back although the temps were fairly mild.  I didn't even need gloves. After eating a protein packed breakfast, I put on snow hiking gear and tackled the driveway as I had company coming over later that evening for dinner.  It took me 45 minutes to clear our driveway. I was super careful about lifting, tossing, etc as I didn't want to throw out my back.  I have to be careful as I have degenerative disc disease along with neck arthritis.  When a kind older gentleman came along with this huge pickup truck and plow, he offered to clear the end of my driveway where the town had pushed a wall of snow. and because our neighbor to the right of us had parked in the road the night before, the road was a hot mess since the town couldn't get around her car well.  The man refused to take anything for his work and that made me smile and say "thank you God".  I'm thankful for kind people.

"SPRING" by Monet

  • ART AFTERNOON:  I picked up Courtney after attending our 9 AM church service, and we went over to Williamstown, MA (about 40 min east) to this art institute. We go 1-2 times a year and this winter all admissions have been free!  I'm thankful the mountain pass we had to go over was clear of snow and I'm thankful the sunshine came out for a little while.  I'm also thankful we saw the French drawing exhibit featuring landscapes and other works from the 18th century.  It wasn't our fave exhibit but I'm thankful we got to see something new and different for us. We ate lunch in the museum cafe and then I found a book for Claire based on the "little dancer aged 14" which is a very famous sculpture by Degas.  She was a French girl and no one knows her name.  I believe the book is going to reveal it.  I'm thankful I had the day with my oldest girl.

Monday morning around 7 AM
backyard snow melt

the 5 inches of snow were mostly gone in the front yard
by Monday afternoon......the snow only lasted 2 days!
  • SNOWMELT AND SUNSHINE: I arrived home from work around 3:15 pm Monday and noticed that the 5 inches of snow from Saturday's storm was mostly gone....especially in the front yard which gets the warm afternoon sun.  I'm thrilled.  We really didn't nearly the amount of snowfall this winter like the central part of the state or the western and northern regions.  We mostly had rain and small amounts of snow 2-3 different times in December and January.  I'm thrilled to see the brown grass again and hopefully by the end of next week the crocuses will be up and blooming. I'm thankful for all 4 seasons, but I do love the newness of Spring.

That wraps up my faves for the week..  What about you?  What were some blessings you experienced? what is one thing you are grateful for today?  please leave a comment with one thing you are thankful for!  If you've linked up your own blog post to Susanne's, I'll make sure to visit sometime this weekend.

HAPPY WEEKEND!  (here in NY, we move our clocks forward "Spring ahead" by an hour on Saturday evening...i love the extended daylight!)

Hi Faith. The dinner with your friend sounds fun and looks delicious. The art museum sounds great. So glad that you and Courtney could go. What a kind act for that man to plow the end of your driveway. That was a blessing for you. It's also good that your snow is melting and that spring is returning. I love your tulips coming up. They look like mine! Have a great weekend. See you again soon!

Oh how nice that someone helped you out with clearing the driveway. I hope your hubby got home safely. I'm sure you will have had lots to talk about.

Sounds like a great week! I'm glad the snow melted pretty quickly. I'm seeing green shoots around, too. It's so heartening. Your dinner sounds great. That was wonderful of the gentleman to help clear the snow. What a neat outing with Courtney.

Your dinner sounds so nice. Great that you and your daughter enjoy art. I like Monet too. I learned about him when I was taking Art History in college back in the 70's. We have been getting way more rain than normal, and need it. Have a great weekend!

Yummy dinner with your friends!
What a sweet neighbor you have, to clear your driveway. It would have taken you much longer than 45 minutes if he had not helped.
Yes, the signs of spring are so encouraging. I love love love my daffodils.
An Art Day sounds like a very relaxing time.
Have a good weekend!

I love blackened salmon! Yum. Your day with Courtney sounds fun. What a blessing to have help with the snow. We had a huge dump Friday and Saturday and hubby was out there for hours over the two day and I couldn't help because of my injured elbow. Love seeing the signs of spring. Nothing coming up here yet.
