FIRST WEEK OF MAY FAVES

I love the month of May and I can't believe we are at the end of the first week of this lovely Spring month.   It's Friday, too, which is the day I share FIVE of my FAVE blessings from the past week.  Learn more about this gratitude writing exercise by clicking here.

  • BREAKFAST OUT! Saturday morning, we woke up to pouring rain.  We both had slept in a little bit and Dave went down and made coffee for me, bringing me a nice large mug while I was still in bed. He does intermittent fasting so doesn't eat breakfast: he drinks a glass of water and then a mug of coffee and doesn't eat until 11 AM when he has a protein snack.  Because I was meeting my friend Gerri out for breakfast, I just had one mug of coffee.  The rain was fierce but we both arrived at this place and had a very enjoyable 1.5 hours just chatting, catching up on family news, and eating delicious scrambled eggs, rye toast and hot coffee. What made me thankful:  time with a hiker friend and real maple syrup to put in my coffee. (a lot of diners only have the fake stuff).

kitchen counter beauty
  • SIMPLE PLEASURES:  This past week I cut 2 tulips from my front flower bed and put them in a small vase I had for the kitchen counter. Next to the new wooden painted spring flower sign I bought at a local dollar store,  the beauty of these simple pleasures made me smile.  I'm thankful for creation and the gift of art.

  • AFTERNOON TEA AND SPONTANEOUS DINNER DATE: My friend Lynn and I had tea at my home late Tuesday afternoon. It had been awhile since we got together and she wanted to tell me some things about her life.  We enjoyed the above tea that I just found at my fave coffee shop and the tea and fellowship were very nice for a chilly afternoon. I'm thankful for delicious caffeine free tea and my church friend.  Then Dave arrived home and said he wanted to go out for dinner at our fave local diner for a beef burger.  Since I don't eat beef, and haven't since 2014, I opted for the bison burger.  I had it minus the bacon.  Just cheddar, lettuce and tomato.  Everything was delicious and I'm thankful for spontaneous work week dates that include not cooking dinner!
Apple Spice Candle in our dining room
  • CHEERY CANDLES:  This past weekend and most of this week, we have seen rainy, chilly days.  We needed the rain since we didn't get a lot of snow this winter to supply the watershed. I lit an apple spiced candle once I was home from work, and it made the house smell good and was very cheerful.  Sadly though, Dave and I are a little bit allergic to it so I can't have it lit for more than an hour or two. I'm thankful for candles that light up a dark corner.

  • GOOD REPORT:  I had some chest tightness and coughing since last weekend, so after work one day this week, I stopped at this walk-in clinic to get my lungs listened to. I was so impressed (my first time there) because the receptionist took me right into an exam room and within 10 min a nurse and doc appeared. That's the quickest urgent care I've ever been in.  There were 2 other people in the waiting room and I noticed they were called in quickly as well.  I was told it's most likely either viral or allergies (I do have an allergy in Spring....birch trees and some grasses) and praise God the lungs were clear!  She ordered me an inhaler which I picked up later that evening and I used it as needed for 3 days. I'm much better now. AND huge news:  I was headache free (for those of you who don't know I was having daily painful headaches all last year from end of March 2022 until mid-January of this new year).  Long story short: neurologist said it's most likely what I suspected: cervicogenic headaches due to spine/neck issues  and nothing OTC gets rid of them.  So the chiropractor has done wonders in getting me pain free and I take a muscle relaxant as needed and haven't needed one in over 2 weeks. Anyways, from last Tuesday to this past Wednesday I was completely cervicogenic headache free and NO neck pain! BUT...the neck pain and headache came back yesterday and was an issue all day. I have hope though that continued treatment will again ease them.  I'm thankful for at least one headache free week since over a year ago!
That wraps up my faves.
I hope whatever you have planned for this first weekend of May, that it's something you totally enjoy and can relax before the start of the next work week.

I am participating in a two-day conference at BYU with my daughter, so no faves this week for me. Today is day #2 of the conference and so far it has been wonderful. Will post about it in my weekend post. Glad you had a good week and have figured out what is causing your headaches. I am also glad that you are getting some relief through the chiropractic treatments. Have a good weekend. See you again soon!

Wonderful news regarding being headache free! Hopefully the chiropractor is eliminating the cause.

I too love candles. I'm currently burning one with a wick that crackles. Sometimes I hear it and for a moment try to figure out where the noise is coming from!

I've never had bison. Does it taste similar to beef? My daughter does intermittent fasting and so doesn't eat breakfast either. I've never tried it due to having diabetes although I do length the time between my evening meal and breakfast the next morning. My daughter does well with it.

Sounds like a great week (especially the diner and burger...YUM FOOD). The flowers in the vase are so pretty and springy! Glad you're feeling better.

Good news that the headaches are mostly gone now and that you are getting relief from your chiropractor.
You've had some good visits with friends this week and that is always a joy and restful activity. And the tea sounds delish.
Love the tulips!

I love breakfast foods in restaurants but don't usually get out that time of day. I'm up then--but not ready to go out. :-) Glad you had some good visits with friends and a spontaneous date.

I'm glad your lungs were clear and especially that the chiropractor seems to be helping your headaches.

Well I'm glad your lungs were clear but great news about your headaches. Good that the chiropractor is helping and hopefully they will give you tips on how to prevent the headaches. I'm guessing that taking care with your posture is important. How nice to eat out. I love that mug of yours next to the candle.
Hope you've had a good weekend.

I am so glad you were able to experience a headache free week! And that your lungs were clear. Praying the treatments continue to work and you'll have more and more of those weeks. That tea sounds delicious. I love your tulips they are one of my favorite flowers but have none planted. Maybe this fall I'll get around to it.
