December HodgePodge

I'm loving this week's questions so if you want to answer them for yourself, head on over to Joyce's blog.

What's the best $5 gift to give someone?

In my opinion, it's a coffee gift card to *bucks, (Sp*t Coffee, or Uncomm*n Grounds) or an  Endangered Species chocolate bar.

2. What's your favorite way to relax/unwind during the busy holiday season?

Reading something from an Advent devotional, just sitting by the lit tree and no other lights in the room, sipping a hot coffee or a nice glass of Reisling or talking a walk in the woods.

3. How do you feel about gingerbread? Love it or no thanks? Are gingerbread houses a part of your holiday tradition? If you said yes, how does that look? Do you like ginger flavor in other kinds of dishes?

Wow...ok.  How do I feel about gingerbread? We used to make it as a "Happy Birthday, Jesus" Christmas Day cake (Dessert for after dinner).  As the girls got towards pre-teen and teens, I stopped because none of us really like cake so I made gingerbread cookies (SO good) and we would have them on Xmas Eve after the church service. So yes, I like it. Gingerbread houses? My girls did make them at Thanksgiving time with their grammy T at the beach house and one time I made them with my oldest in her preschool.  My youngest never got into it so it wasn't really a thing once she was born.

Yes of course I use ginger in cooking. We eat a lot of plant-based dishes/Asian dishes so I use it often during the week. I also make an amazing (so I've been told) Ginger Noodle Soup. SO good. In fact, it's on the dinner menu for tonight.

4. December 5th is National Blue Jeans Day...will you be celebrating? Do you have a favorite brand? A favorite pair? Do you have a hard time parting with a favorite pair of jeans? Blue jeans-joggers-leggings-yoga pants...which one do you wear most often?

Never heard of National Blue Jeans Day but YES I am a jeans gal. (well, except for hiking of course...real hikers don't wear denim......look up why).  My favorite brand used to be Aeropostale until they changed the denim.  Now my fave brand is Levi's. Yes...i have an extemely hard time parting with a fave pair so I still have a pair I wore in 1978 at age 18. They fit me until I gave birth to my youngest daughter at age 39. I still have them on my closet shelf. No way are they leaving my house. Maybe I'll fit into them again! :)

I most often wear jeans. When I was teaching I most often wore leggings with skirts/tunics. I wear yoga pants to work out in...to go power walking in or doing low impact aerobics and yoga.  I also wear them to the chiropractor. Joggers are ok....I have a hiking pair with wick away material I really like for spring hiking. I'm mostly a skinny jeans, high waisted wide flare jeans kind of gal. Today I'm wearing paper bag pants that are super soft and look like jeans with the barrel legs but they're not denim. They're a soft cotton.

5. As we head into this holiday season what's your biggest priority or goal for the end of the year?

My biggest priority currently is to be in the moment with my husband and 2 daughters when they come over for the Christmas festivities. My goal for the end of the year is to have friends over for New Year's Eve if we are not going to Boston. I would love to just have a wine and cheese party and sit around playing board games. I'm hoping to make this happen. My main goal though:  to have worshipful eyes centered on Jesus all month long and into the New Year.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I love Christmas music!!

What I'm currently listening to:

enjoy the rest of the week!!

Hi Faith, its nice to know someone else who holds onto a sentimental clothing item. I am temped to buy a pair of wider leg pants, and I may have to look in the jr department. My legs and rear are junior, but not my middle! Have a great rest of the week!

Do you share your soup recipe? If so I'd love to have it. Sounds like something we would enjoy and I make a lot of soups this time of year. Neighbors have invited us to a get together NY Eve. I think it will be somewhat low key and easy since it's just a few houses up the street. I'm all about easy social engagements : )

Hi Faith. I'm a jeans girl too. I wear them every day. We have tentative plans with friends on New Year's Eve. Gingerbread - I can take it or leave it. Hope you are having a good week! See you again soon.

We're still deciding what we are going to do for New Years Eve, but I'm hoping it involves some board games. It might involve a hockey game and I'd be fine with that too. Love the Lindsey Stirling video - I have a lot of her music on my Christmas playlist! Have a great week!

A wine and cheese party with games sounds great. For me it'd be beer but yeah. Probably on average about 5-6 years ago, we had a friend group who had kids the same ages as ours so we often did this. Now that our olders are all about to graduate high school, we don't do this much anymore and that's sad.
