Top Ten

I read.  A lot.  I love books. I love our town library. I rarely buy a book unless it's a non-fiction study book that I need for my role as a small group leader. I read at some point every day.  Morning and then usually in the evening or before bed.

This past year I have completed 55 books. For some reason Goodreads thinks I've completed 58.  No idea why....I am getting annoyed with Goodreads and much prefer Storygraph.  I  write up a book review for each completed book, here on this blog and will sometimes link it with my Goodreads and/or Storygraph accounts. I tend to rate books based on literary content/plot/characterization and if it contains a plethora of the F word or mis-using Christ's name, it automatically begins at a 9 vs a perfect 10. I also cannot abide editing errors and today's contemporary fiction seems to be full of editing mistakes. I actually compared one contemporary historical fiction book with one of the Agatha Christie books I read this past year and the mystery had NO editing errors! They don't make em like they used to as my mother would say.

Out of the 55 books I have completed, I have TEN that make my faves list. They are in the order of absolute best (in my opinion) first and then down. I've also linked the title to the reviews I wrote.

The Berry Pickers : Read this!!

North Woods (if you like being out in nature, read this!)

Mostly What God Does (non fiction).  Amazing. By my fave The Today Show host. Again, read this!! See if it changes you. It did me.

The Reformatory (historical fiction and very important piece of USA history; if you are concerned about racism, read this. I had no idea this happened.)

All The Lost Places  (it's magical; spiritual; a gem and a bit of historical fiction; read this!! you'll be glad you did)

The Stolen Child (historical fiction and a bit different from most in this genre and time period).

Cross Down (by my absolute fave mystery author)

Beartown (absolutely good first book in a trilogy; was also a mini-series on Netflix and I highly recommend it)

The Women  (historical fiction by another fave author that doesn't really live up to its hype and I preferred two of her older books but it was still a good read).

Mad Honey (by one of my fave authors, but not one of my absolute faves of hers;  still...it's a very important  topic for our culture today)

Did you read any books this year?  What were your faves?

WOW 55. I will have to look into those books, and I admit, I have never heard of them. Wishing you a beautiful Sunday my friend.

I think I will finish the year with 74 or 75 if I finish a book I have started tonight. We hope to finish another audiobook in the car on the way home from St. George tomorrow. It was fun to read your top ten books of the year. See you again soon!

55 is a good total. I've read two of the books in your top ten - The Women and Mad Honey. Mad Honey was probably my favourite book of the year but I did enjoy The Women too.
