Well, we did it! We were up and out by 7:45 with me just minutes to spare at my new teaching assignment. I loved meeting the staff I will be directly working with. I am doing direct supervision of 2 special needs boys in the integrated kindgergarten class. The teacher is a great guy, and there are 3 of us working as special education direct teacher aides. This means we teach in small group instruction during center times as well as at all times staying with the 2 children assigned to us. The classroom has a a.m. kindergarten class. 6 of the children are special needs with IEP's. 5 stay for the afternoon component. I am there just for the a.m. classtime. It was a productive morning getting the room ready, getting materials set up for the next day, meeting other staff, teachers and special ed personnel.
I put my 8 year old on her bus, praying for her safety and that she would like the sub who has been assigned to her room for first semester. Her 3rd grade teacher has to take a semester leave of absence due to health issues so therefore the district had to hire a sub. I also prayed for the sub and the teacher she is replacing. We hope she comes back in good health!
My oldest got on the bus at 6:45 (that is one good thing about parents who homeschool....their teens can sleep in!). Her bus was right on time, she was very excited to begin high school. Again, I lifted up the teens, the staff, the teachers and the administration in prayer. It takes alot of people to run a high school of 2000 students safely and effectively. We do have the pleasure of being one of the top 75 high-academically performing high schools in the nation!
I am pleased with the courses she is taking even though I am still confused about the 7 period days yet there are 8 periods to get through! Basically, "A day" she will have periods 1-7. B day she will have periods 8, skip 1, then 2-7. and so on........this must be why they stress organizational skills from kindergarten to 8th grade and why they provide planners from 1st-12th! My goodness! All in all, around our house this a.m. we were off to a good start and it is nice to be back in a routine! (tomorrow I get to meet the students in my class!)
