The report is in!
Courtney received a letter in the mail today from her high school building principal and hall principal.
She made the High Honor Roll for 2nd quarter! (this means, in our district, that all grades were over 90%) YEAH...she was so happy. She did make High Honor Roll for 7 out of 8 quarters in junior high school but it is a little harder to make High Honor Roll at the high school level.
For her 1st quarter she only made Honor Roll as she got an 85% in Orchestra. Once she figured out that in high school, the orchestra teacher lowers grades if a student misses a lesson, she got her butt to her lessons and just got any class work from the teacher of the class that she missed. Her violin lesson is different every week, meaning that one week she might be missing French, the next week Biology, etc. Which is nice as that way she is not missing the same class each week! The only time she is exempt from going to lesson is if there is a test/exam in that class.
SO....yeah Courtney! You go, girl! Mom and Dad are proud of you! (I had to put that in as she might check my blog later!)
And now....about American Idol: good grief: Luke didn't sound too good last nite. Neither did David A.!! My favorites last nite were Checkize, David H, and Jason! Hope the girls do well tonite. Around our house we are getting ready for Grammy and Grampa T. to arrive for Courtney's Strings concert tomorrow nite and also I have begun my spring cleaning in the family room. I began by rearranging the furniture, re-organizing the coffee table drawer, re-organizing Claire's American Girl doll (kaya) and the Tepee with all its "stuff". I then took out the books that were related to snow, winter, African American History month, and replaced them with books like The Easter Story, The Three Trees, a book about the trinity, a book about fog, a Ruby Bridges book that Claire hasn't finished reading aloud to me, and some other fun spring books. I have an old Easter basket for all the Easter/Resurrection books and a pretty white shaker style basket for the secular ones. She still needs to read aloud for about 20 min per week as per 3rd grade district reading requirements. I also make her do an extra 10 min to keep an eye/ear on her articulation as she had some speech issues from age 3-7 but didn't qualify for speech therapy when tested. So, I met with a speech therapist friend and she gave me ideas of things to do at home. I also met with the school therapist and she agreed to see Claire in the classroom during 1st and 2nd grade to keep an eye on things. So...even though she didn't score low enough to get the services, she is improving tremendously with her "ch" and "sh" sounds. YEAH....AND SHE got all A's on her report card, too! I love bragging on my girls. so...forgive me but they are my precious ones and I thank God for them and their capabilities. Now...time to go make dinner and get ready for American Idol!
