Thank you for raising this important issue. We as a society need to get smarter about detecting and reporting child abuse. For example, teachers often notice signs of child abuse but don't know how to talk to the student about it. So the abuse goes unreported. There's a new online role-playing tool that lets teachers practice a conversation with a possible child abuse victim, getting expert feedback after every choice. (It was co-written by a former Minnesota police detective.) There's a free version and a CEU-version for teachers. Hopefully, practical tools like this will help all of us to crack down on child abuse more effectively.

Dear gb: not sure where you are from, but here in NYS, all teachers are mandated reporters and take various classes in college/grad school about abuse as well as workshops/seminars, etc.
The role playing tool sounds great!

I look forward to your posts this month. Maybe you would be willing to tackle the topic of child abuse within Christian families. Just a thought. :~D

hi E-mom: that would be a tough one...especially if you mean physical abuse. Too many Christians think spanking is ok and I know from experience that that is a very controversial topic! I would have to really think about that one!
