For several weeks now, I have been doing a personal Bible Study for my morning devotions on the topic of the Sovereignty of God. It just blows my mind to think about how all-powerful our God is! Really, our human minds just can't fully comprehend His Power!
This a.m. before work I was in 2 Chronicles 20: 5-12. I especially like verse 15b which states:
"...do not be afraid nor dismayed....for the battle is not yours, but God's."
And then I was reading in Ezra 8: 21-23. Verse 22 jumped out at me for some reason. It states:
"....the hand of our God is upon all those for good who seek Him....so we fasted and entreated our God for this, and He answered our prayer."
WOW...When we feel powerless, God will be a comfort. We need to keep our eyes on His sovereignty and power....and allow Him to fight the battles for us.....
And...we need to remember that He has us in the palm of His Hand.
Remember (for those of you who are moms) what it felt like to hold your newborn....when I first pushed out Courtney, 14 years ago, the nurse put her up on my chest and I was able to hold her entire head in the palm of my hand. She was so tiny...she depended on me for everything. Her comfort depended on me! How much more so does God want to hold us? He longs for us to depend on Him!
It is easy, isn't it, to think of God and His sovereignty when everything is going well for us.
But...sometimes, things don't always go so easy. Do we question God at those times? I know I have. Some times it is easy to doubt that God is in control when we are in the midst of a storm. But...He is always in control! He holds us in His Hands if we let Him! It is our job to humble ourselves and seek Him with all our heart, soul and mind. We do this through prayer. He will answer us. He has us in the palm of His Hand.

Hi Faith! I have much catching up to do in Blogville, but thank you for this post today. Please pray for my family right now. Satan is attacking two of my kids, my son (17) and my daughter (19) and they are letting him win. I keep thinking how much God loves my kids, even more than I do, and only wants the best for them.
The world has so many temptations and my kids are caught up in them. It is not drugs or alchohol in case you were wondering. But I would appreciate your prayers as my husband and I and our pastor work with them. Thank you!
Faith~
I really enjoyed this devotion. Thanks for the reminder of how God is always in control.
Thanks for stopping by today. I always enjoy your comments. They are such an encouragement to me and my writing.
One of my favorite scriptures is Isaiah 49:16 where it says God has engraved us on the palm of His hands. The Amplified says he's indelibly imprinted or tatooed a picture of us on the palm of each of His hands. How reassuring that is. Great devotion!
Wow. I just found you through a comment you left on someone else's blog and I'm just so thankful I did. Your post just blessed me this morning and I'm glad I read it. I also enjoyed reading your sidebar stuff. (Keith Green..Yay!)
I love Philip Yancey books too. They make me think outside my own little box I created...which I didn't know I HAD. :-)
Thanks again for a thoughtful post.
Diane
What a beautiful comforting image. Thanks for the reminder! We're so vulnerable as humans, but He is our strong protector. We are held in the palm of His hand... :~D
