Random Thoughts Again

I LOVE fresh bing cherries. At $3.99 they are a special treat because normally I wouldn't pay that for them. But...I needed a special treat that my daughters won't gobble up in 2 days like they do the fresh grapes, apples, watermelon, cantaloupe and lemons I buy. So.....on this hot, hazy and humid day, I am gonna enjoy some cold cherries with my oatmeal.

Did you know that eating a bowl of oatmeal every day for a month can lower your cholesterol significantly? Mine was 184 2 summers ago and as of 9/07, I had gotten it down to 171. My bad cholesterol is still too high and my good should be a bit lower but overall......it's goin' down! I think all the exercise I get in the warmer months helps as well. But I can't eat oatmeal every day. The kind I am lovin' right now is the new kind (instant packets) from Quaker...Simple Harvest. It is also a pricey grocery item (what isn't these days?!) so I tend to buy it at Target. On days I don't eat oatmeal, I choose a multi-grain cereal like Cheerios (original) or anything by Kashi. I'm the only one who eats cereal usually so it lasts awhile. I like fresh blueberries on my cold cereal and they also help to lower cholesterol!

I haven't had a chance to blog much and still don't have much time to write anything of significance. My husband is out of the state for work for a day and my youngest and I have to go shopping this afternoon so she can pick out something for her sister's birthday. Claire has just 3 more swimming lessons as I am having her stop on Friday rather than Monday due to her dance rehearsal at church on Monday a.m. She has a busy month as well! It's good though to get children involved in summer activities. I never hear the phrase "mooooommmm, we're bored!" I do make sure they have plenty of down time in the afternoons and evenings. That is important too. The rule about only being on the computer for 1 hour per day is really working! And they are much more self-sufficient now with getting their own breakfast, and often, lunch. That is a huge blessing and a perk of having older kids!
Courtney turns 15 on Friday...hard to believe I have a "almost sophomore" in the house. Her party is actually on her birthday so that is special for her. She has 3 school friends coming over and 1 church friend. The church friend also goes to her school. They are a great bunch of girls. They plan on "camping out" in the camper.....that will be a whole other post for another day....the saga of our camper......let's just say we are seriously thinking of selling it come autumn!!

So....for today I must get a bunch of stuff done for this party. I need to go and order the ice cream cake from Carvel (yeah, I am just too lazy to make one...and theirs are sooooo good!) I need to figure out how much pizza to order and go to the deli to order the veggie tray. Soda I will pick up at the dollar store. We don't normally drink soda here at our house so we never have any on hand. Courtney wants some for the party so we serve coke, sprite and bottled water....most of the kids love the vitamin water so that's easy to pick up on sale, too.
Then I have to prepare for my hiking trip on Sat.

I was blessed yesterday as Courtney's friend, Traci, who lives in our neighborhood and is also taking the same summer Health class, said that her dad would like to offer to bring Courtney to the high school each morning since he has to take Traci there anyways on his way to work! I will be the one to pick the girls up and get them home. I am blessed to have awesome neighbors. They are Chinese Christians and love the Lord....they go to a different church but visit ours for some of the special events we host.

I won't be back on for 2 or 3 days most likely so I will leave this link for you to visit.
Check out our pastor's latest entry, too, by going to my side bar and clicking on the blog for Pastor Rex. It's a great post...you'll be glad you read it!

Enjoy your day....if you are getting this hot and humid weather...stay cool!

A happy birthday to your daughter!
I still remember having sleepovers in our family's trailer when I was a teen...we had so much fun taking turns making up stories and playing board games! I know she will have such a good time!
Pizza, veggie tray and icecream cake...it can't get better than that! :)
