We're back from our quick trip to Cape Cod.
The weather was just about perfect. It rained briefly on Friday evening.
Sat and Sun were gorgeous blue skies after the a.m. fog and haze lifted.
The bay was calm and peaceful! The sun was glorious.
We are thanking the Lord God above that we had to bring our camper with us this time. (beach house bedrooms were all full with the "older folk").
Because we learned something about this camper.
And we decided that next week will be our very last camping trip with this camper.
And we are not buying another one.
I am getting old. At 48 I am just too tired to deal with all it entails.
We will most likely "camp" for a week in a cabin. More money but less hassle.
We discovered on Sunday a.m. that with the early a.m. heavy dew (ya get alot of it when you are on the ocean....the backyard of the beach house is Buzzards Bay...needless to say...lots of humidity and dew!)...anyhoo....we discovered that the canvas of our pop-up LEAKS! yes...my daughters had dew dripping on to their sleeping bags.
SO....now we are praying fervantly that there will be NO RAIN in the Central Adirondacks next week.
Just in case: my dear hubby wants to go pick up a large 7-person tent (yeah I know...there are only 4 of us...but...we like our space...as you will soon learn why) and perhaps an extra tarp.
Just in case.
Ok....now, I don't have pictures to share from this Cape Cod trip because....once again...I forgot something (remember the grad party/gift story from June??).
I forgot to pack the camera. My daughter's cell phone battery was low so we couldn't use her phone to take pics. (yeah, mine doesn't take photos...she has a better cell than me). She didn't bring her charger.
But...my MIL took pics for me as did my friend MaryJo (she is my husband's father's youngest cousin's wife...got that??). She is close to me in age and we get along great. She will send me some pics I think, once life is back to normal for them. They drove up from PA.
So....my oldest got to hang out a bit with her cousin (Beth) who leave for college in 2 weeks.
My youngest was the only child there for most of the weekend....she got thoroughly spoiled as Grampa made chocolate chip waffles for her on Sun. a.m. But...isn't that what grandparents are for?
Dave and I spent about an hour on the bay in the early a.m. on Sat. doing some kayaking.
I still prefer paddling the quiet waters of the lakes around us rather than the ocean......the waves are too big! But...I didn't flip so that is a good thing.
Grammy (Dave's mom) then gave my daughters a lesson in paddling as it was low tide by that point (about 10 a.m.) and then Dave took Claire in the 2-person kayak that belongs to the house, and Courtney got in one of our kayaks. They had a blast. They were gone a little over an hour. Came back and swam.
I placed my butt on a chair on the deck and drank coffee with MaryJo.
Now we are home and facing laundry which is almost done and food shopping for our camping trip.
Camping trips take about a week of preparation although I am at the point in my life where I can pack up in 2 days if I have to. I prefer to take the week and use my checklist that is on a spreadsheet on the other computer.
But....I have our system down and the girls are at an age where they can help with out being a hindrance. Courtney is in charge of her own suitcase and hiking gear.
I pack for Claire but she packs her own "rainy day" activities.
but remember: we are praying it. doesn't. rain. Please God. Give. Us. A. Break. NYS has seen alot of the wet stuff lately....we truly do not need more.
AND....our wood pile is soaked so we will probably have to buy a stack once we get to the campground.
Most of the camper is already packed with the main stuff: gas stove, propane bottles are full, cooking gear, lanterns, batteries, utensils, grilling gear, rugs, broom, water carrier container, 4 sleeping bags/pillows.
I just need to pull out the bin of towels/shower stuff.
Then I put together our huge LLBean tote (we bought an extra large) that holds our beach gear and water shoes.
After that, the dish bin full of camping dishes gets placed in the camper cupboards if there is room left. We don't use electrical hook-up so the camper fridge is used for canned goods and other dry food stuffs that don't need to be in the cooler.
We pack the 2 coolers the nite before we pull out. (one cooler is for meats, condiments) the other is for dairy, juices, veggies.
I usually don't have much room in the camper cupboards for the plates, cups, bowls so I have a bin for those.
Where we are camping, the NYS rules are that our food must stay in the trunk due to the high black bear population. This particular campground often sees bear activity at nite. So after our dinners, we put the 2 coolers and food bin (breads, buns, cereal, etc.) back in the trunk.
If we leave for a day of hiking or kayaking, we do the same thing.
SO.....I'm sorry I won't be on here as much in the next 2 weeks but....
this is the vacation I have been waiting for all summer!
And it is not alot of money! For the whole week of camping in this particular NYS Campground (Lewey Lake) it is only $117.00!!! That is cheaper than ONE night in the rinky-dink motel on Lake Winnipesaukee.
If you have a large family: go camping!!!!
We save so much money that we usually treat ourselves to whatever local restaurant is in the nearest town (if any!!) for one evening out.
I booked us a gorgeous site that is right across from the lake! I can't wait to see it!
(I could have chosen one right on the lake but....think: Mosquitos.).
So...this week I won't be on here much.
I will visit my fave blogs though!
And...come end of August, I am re-thinking what this blog might contain anyways.....
I most likely won't be posting this daily dribble.....I may focus on more devotional type posts....
It is something I am thinking about....
Meanwhile....enjoy the end of Summer everyone! ( I know it doesn't officially end until mid-Sept)
but to us...around our house....summer is almost over and with the start of school on 9/4, the "new year" begins and autumn activities will be in full swing.
God bless you!!

Your Cape Cod trip sounds awesome--despite the missing camera! Summer, yes, enjoy the rest of summer. :~D
Have a wonderful time off! Personally I like your "dribble" too! :v)
Enjoy the next few weeks, and send some of that rain down my way! :)
wow Faith, i think i need to have the beginners version of camping because that's a whole lot of packing and organising!! I can tell my 1st camping trip is going to be a learning experience. Wow, that is just so much to buy...all i was thinking of is the tent, might need to buy me a camping 101 book...or camping for dummies. But I won't let that overwhelm me...to many experiences to be had enjoying God's creations!!!
