I've been thinking about my daily devotionals ("quiet time") and how so many times they seem mundane to me or just routine.
Do you ever feel that way?
Well, I just read an awesome article about why "traditional" devos don't always work for a person. The article was from the latest "Today's Christian Woman" magazine which I highly recommend all women to read. It is for Christian women from all denominations (or not!) and the contributors have thought-provoking articles. There are also articles geared towards parenting and marriage as well as the single life of a Christian woman.
If you can't subscribe to yet another magazine, go to their website...you can read excerpts online and they have blogs to peruse.
Anyways...the article hit home with me because over the summer I learned something about my self. I don't like traditional devotions. I don't get much out of my time and I have been doing this for a number of years!
Now, don't get me wrong. I LOVE reading the Word of God and I LOVE when my pastor preaches because I learn something new every single week. He opens up the Scriptures so that new believers, seekers and mature Christians can walk away with something new. Now, that is truly a gifted pastor!
BUT...for years I thought "devotions" had to be done a certain way.
Every a.m. get up, read the Word, pray, meditate on that Word and dash off to work or housework or child-rearing.
Now? my eyes have been opened.....come on back here later this week and read what I have learned from this article AND what the Lord has shown me this summer. I find it so awesome that what I have been pondering all summer showed up in my first fall issue of the magazine....isn't God amazing???
Enjoy your Sabbath, everyone and if you have time, find the poll on my sidebar and vote!

I'll be interested to see what you've learned Faith. I find the traditional mode of devotionals not always suited to myself, so would love to be able to find something that suits me so that I can get more out of my time with the Lord.
