July Fave Five #4

Wow....another week that just flew by!
Thanks to the lovely Susanne for hosting this meme each week and for giving us a chance to find the blessings that the Lord gave us...that some of us call favorites!

Mine were all rather different this past week.

The Minne-Ha-Ha Steam Ship
Lake George, NY
Eastern Adirondacks
16 July 2010
My faves started last Friday with a trip to the part of the Adirondacks that are closest to us:  the Eastern Region/Lake George region.  I took my 2 daughters plus one of Courtney's friends to 2 different beaches on Lake George.  The first beach was in Bolton Landing, a small resort village about 10 miles up the mountain from the village of Lake George.  It began raining heavily after about 1 hour so we drove back down the mountain to the Village beach and had a lovely afternoon of ice cream, window shopping, swimming, and watching the tour boats cruise down the lake. The water was cold and refreshing since the temps were high!   It felt so good to be in the mountains!

Last Sunday evening:  a chilled glass of one of my fave wines. (Fox Run Vineyards, Chardonnay.  Fox Run is one of our fave vineyards and they are located in the Finger Lakes region here in our state of NY, about 3 hours southwest of us)
Dave and I had dinner on the deck. It was a beautiful evening and the girls were busy in the house doing things to prepare for our trip the next day.   I made a zucchini pasta dish and we just talked and talked. He shared some stuff he is going through regarding a short story he is trying to finish writing and get published! We talked about the ministry we are involved in together (junior high youth group) and about the upcoming college visits we have with our teenager.  It was just a nice, cool evening, sitting with our wine and having some time without the girls clamoring for our attention....we were all home and my oldest did a great job of cleaning up the kitchen and hanging out with her lil sis! God has definitely blessed me with a good husband and friend!  And with awesome daughters!
Tuesday:  my oldest daughter's first official college visit. The seal of the college we looked at on Tuesday is pictured above. This is where I received my BS degree in Music Education/Piano.  My husband, Courtney, and I traveled on Monday evening to Rochester, NY, checked into the hotel, and made our way to campus early Tuesday morning.  How wonderful to be back at my alma mater, with my oldest child, and take the tour, listen to the president (a new one since I've been there!) and see all the positive changes and growth that have occurred on campus. We even had a private tour of the Art Department and were able to meet the dept chairman!  My husband was not that interested in the whole private Christian college thing until he visited Roberts Wesleyan. He is now saying how impressed he was.  It really is a special place.  Now she has some decisions to make! (we visit 2 more colleges this upcoming week, out in the Boston, MA area.  One is a secular university with a school of art/design and the other is a private Christian college).  She also has 2 other colleges in our capital city to visit later next month!
Our ballerina:  Claire
and her Aunt Hope's chicken Sophia.
20 July 2010

My sister Hope and her husband, Donny.  Yes...relatives make my fave five list this week!

They graciously offered to have Claire spend Monday evening and all day Tuesday with them and their 2 dogs and several chickens. They live in a remote part of Central New York.  Since we had to pass through their area (sort of) on the way to Rochester, NY to view the college mentioned above, we decided this would be a good thing.  Claire would have been totally bored during the 9-2 college visit plus it is a 4 hour drive to the campus. So....she spent the night with Aunt Hope and Uncle Donny and got thoroughly spoiled.  I thought this pic that my sister took was really cute.....Claire is definitely an animal lover!

A refreshing thunderstorm on Wednesday evening that brought cooler temps, no humidity, and bright, blue, sunny skies to us on Thursday.  I was able to turn off the central air and open all the windows in the house on Thursday a.m.  I enjoyed breakfast with my husband at 6:30 in our sunny, cool dining room with a wonderful breeze blowing the curtains.  I took my oldest to the drama camp going on at our church where she is a teen helper.  My youngest daughter slept in a bit, and then I was able to do some reading & prayer journaling on the deck and mow part of the lawn without getting all hot and sweaty!  Yeah for perfect summer weather and yeah for a good soaking rain.....our flowers/grass really needed it!

So...those are my fave fives.....I hope you play along...head over to Susanne's site to find out how to join in.....click on her name in my first paragraph!

Whatever you do this weekend, enjoy it and remember to give God the glory for all your blessings and favorite moments!

What a beautiful area that Lake George is. The mountains are my favorite place to be. I think I would love visiting there.

I don't recall that we are quite so involved in picking universities up here in Canada where we visit quite a few before choosing. Or maybe I just missed that part because our oldest wanted to go to bible school and she knew which one right off the start and our son registered at the local college because that is where his paramedic courses are. So maybe I just missed that whole part of young adult life. LOL.

Hi Susanne! Well, the college seminar our high school presented had college admissions counselors speaking and they recommended that each student visit 3-5 colleges (or more) to compare/contrast and that realistically 3-5 colleges should be applied to unless of course the student really knows where she wants to go. Courtney doesn't really know yet. She just knows she likes the idea of being near the ocean/New England and doesn't wanna be too far from home (as in a plane ride). So....because of her intended major we really need to look at various colleges.

I've been on the Minnehaha! Lake George is so nice.

My son is going to Asbury University. We love it. We got started on the private college/Christian university road and we and the boys have been so happy with their choices.

Love those "talking times" with the hubby! Happy Friday.

I'm really looking forward to being able to sit out on the back porch again...it's just been too hot & humid here lately.
The picture of the lake looks lovely. Beautiful area!
My oldest ended up attending the college where I met my husband (his dad). It's still really neat to visit and be back on campus where I had such a great time!
