Joy for Two at Christmas

12 Gifts Men Love That Don't Cost a Cent!

That's the title I chose from the list of topics that E-mom from over at Chrysalis had posted for our December Marriage Monday.

At first I decided I was much too busy this weekend to write about traditions, Scriptures, or anything related to my husband for this month's post.  But...this title made me realize that the actual gifts don't matter to either Dave nor I, although we both love receiving and giving gifts from/to each other.  We had decided to cut back this year so when I saw this topic title, I decided to try to find 12 things that would make my guy happy without spending extra money.  Here's what I came up with:

  • MORNING COFFEE IN BED JUST THE WAY HE LIKES IT

  • A LOVE NOTE TUCKED INTO HIS LUNCH BOX

  • SERVE HIS FAVORITE DINNER FOR JUST THE TWO OF US ONE NIGHT THIS MONTH

  • GIVE A BACK RUB ONE EVENING A WEEK ALL MONTH LONG

  • GO FOR WALK TOGETHER HOLDING HANDS THE ENTIRE TIME

  • GIVE A BLANK GIFT VOUCHER FOR ANYTHING HE CHOOSES TO DO!

  • HE CHOOSES THE NEXT MOVIE FOR MOVIE NIGHT FROM OUR COLLECTION OF MOVIES....MAKE POPCORN.....

  • MAKE HIS LUNCH FOR EACH WORK DAY THIS MONTH (& use the savings on a date night later in the season!)

  • CUDDLING ON THE COUCH BY CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHT

  • KISSING EVERY MORNING & EVENING

  • DOWNLOAD HIS FAVORITE MUSIC ON TO A CD FOR THE CAR

  • LISTEN!  Just sit one evening and listen to your husband's vision, dreams for retirement, prayer requests, what God is telling Him, etc.  This is something I definitely don't do enough of....and I am determined to change this.....Men want to communicate with us on their terms. I am convinced of it.  My husband needs to communicate with me but the problems arise when I want to listen while all the while trying to solve, fix, teach, or just day dream about my own agenda.  Yikes...the best gift I think I can personally give my spouse this Christmas is the gift of my time to listen.

So...those are my "gifts" that don't cost anything...other than the food for the dinner, and the coffee....but those things are always in the house.....maybe your guy will like some of these ideas.....try them!

To me, the most important thing we can do during the busy Christmas season, is to keep praying for each other, telling each other our needs, helping each other with the children's schedules, having fun as a family, attending special events with joy in our hearts for the blessings of God.....and keeping in the forefront of our minds, the real Reason for the Season...because without Christ, our marriages would suffer....and with Christ, we have a purpose and a plan....together.  Gifts or not.

Fantastic ideas! I got away from leaving notes in his lunch, I need to do that again. Great ideas and post!

OK, my DH would love your #4... a backrub one evening a week all month long.

Our daughter used to love giving him those deep tissue massages (she's a potter). My (painterly) hands are better designed for detail and precision on the keyboard! But I put massage on my list too... as a reminder to "get physical" his way.

Thanks for thinking about and writing this post, even in the midst of your busy month. I appreciate your support of our Marrage Monday meme, Faith!

Merry Christmas,
