Book Review #7 for Spring Reading

Over the weekend I finished the latest novel by one of my favorite authors.  This book was great!

I had bought it for my oldest daughter as a special treat while she was recovering from her wisdom teeth surgery.  She loves Binchy novels as much as I do and read this one in about 3 days.  It took me longer but only because I had so much going on every evening last week.

If you enjoy her novels, you will love this latest one.  (I had read somewhere that she was retired from writing so when we discovered that this was out, we were thrilled!).

It is set in Ireland as are almost all of her books.

The cast of characters are also from several of her other books so that was a lot of fun...to see what these beloved characters were up to.

The main plot of the story:
Noel, a young man who is in a job he doesn't really care for, and who tends to drink too much, finds out that he has fathered a child whose mother is dying.  She dies after giving birth and after he promises her he will raise baby Frankie.

Everyone in his neighborhood lends a helping hand and he begins to get his life together by attending AA meetings, going back to college and taking care of his newborn daughter.  A social worker who is a very bitter and sad woman, begins to make life difficult for him....she would love to see him fail at fatherhood and take the baby away to be raised in foster care.

Does she succeed??

There are other subplots going on as well with a cousin from America who is visiting Ireland and falls in love.....with the other characters who are also involved with Noel and his baby....a couple of new characters are introduced, and one beloved character ends up.......well......I won't tell you in case you want to read this.

Overall, this is a fantastic book as are all of her books!  She is a very beloved author and her characters are ones that you can really relate with.

I highly recommend this book....the content leaves you with that warm and fuzzy feeling and with the sense that God really does work in mysterious ways.

This book is appropriate for ages 14 and older.

So, I have now completed my 6th book from my Spring Reading List and have started The Confession by John Grisham.  I am a little more than half way through the One Thousand Gifts book by Ann Voskamp and my goal is to finish that by the end of this month.

How are you coming with your spring reading list??

Have you read any good books lately?  What are you currently reading??

Hi Lisa Marie: I'll be in touch sometime in the next couple of days....I don't have a counseling degree, just so you know...i have only been trained as a lay person in certain counseling techniques. My training is actually with abused children and my degrees are education-related (music and special ed)but...I might be able to direct you to a resource or give you some tips depending on the issue :)

I'm definitely getting this one, I had no idea she had a new book out. I used to read her books all the time. I haven't read any fiction for I can't even remember how long!

I bought a couple of Maeve Binchy titles from last years library book sale because of your enjoyment of her stories. Haven't made it to any of them yet though. Maybe that will have to be my summer reads.
