What a week!!
It certainly was .......different.....and wicked busy!!
Last Friday afternoon, I was offered a full time position at the elementary school where I've worked in special education for the last 4 years. Some of you know my position moved from Integrated Kindergarten (which I loved!) to the multiply handicapped room of 8-12 yr olds. I wasn't super thrilled with that move nor was my previous team. I heard the primary special ed room (grades 1-3) had an unexpected opening. But it was full time. Did I pray enough before writing the letter of interest and saying Yes to the offer? Probably not. yet...I wanted to get back to that age group and wanted to earn a bit more money.(we have a college aged daughter now and want to help her a little bit with tuition since her scholarship only covers about 1/3 of it!) I haven't worked full time outside the home since 1995, when my oldest was just 2. So this week has been a HUGE adjustment. My 12 year old is fine with it. My husband is very happy that more money can be saved to help our oldest with college expenses. I am missing my free afternoons and will have to adjust to a new normal. More errands later in the day, housework done in the evenings, more housework on the weekends....not a fave of mine. BUT....I really enjoy the challenges of the students I'm working with and my day is going by fast. It's the evenings that I miss...the evenings of writing/journaling for this blog, time to just sit, etc. I know the Lord brought some blessings into my week even with this new busyness.
Five Faves.....if you wanna play along, head over to Susanne's site, our gracious FRIDAY FAVE FIVES host!

Dave resting from hiking Lisha Kill Preserve Sept 2011 |
- HUBBY'S HELP! Dave vacuumed the dining room while I took Claire to her long ballet classes on Tuesday evening. He also threw in a load of laundry and folded everything! I love that he is back to helping me with some of the more mundane household tasks. He used to help out alot when I was a Master Teacher full time....and now that I'm just an assistant and back to full time work outside our home, he is helping more again! Always a fave with me......

- NEW NOVEL! I found this book at the library last week and recognized the author's name. I read her first novel (The Weight of Silence) which was excellent! So, I grabbed it off the "new books" shelf and checked it out. It is fantastic and I hope to finish it this weekend over our mini-vacation.

- AUTUMNAL AFTERNOONS! The last few days have been just glorious autumn days...and now that I get out at 3 pm rather than 12:30 pm I am savoring every moment in the sun. This includes 20 minutes outside for recess with 4 of my students. It is just so nice to see the bright, blue sky, feel the crisp air and warm sun...and walking back to my car rejuvenates me for the trip home or a quick errand before switching gears to be mom and wife. I love autumn!! (this pic is similar to a scene near the school where I teach).

The Library/Media Center at S------Junior High School image taken from schooldesign.com |
- JUNIOR HIGH OPEN HOUSE! Yes, this makes my fave list, not because I LOVE open houses every autumn, but because I was very proud to see my daughter's work displayed in THREE classrooms and each display (posters) were a witness to her Christian testimony in a way. All 3 posters and one flyer displayed (Science, Health, Social Studies, and Home/Careers) had to depict the student in a unique manner. They could show their interests, hobbies, fave subjects, etc. A typical "back to school" assignment so teachers can get to know new students. In these classes listed above she drew a cross for each assignment somewhere on her poster/flyer and wrote things like "faith", "Jesus is Risen", "Christian" or other words depicting her faith in Christ. I am so proud of her and very happy to see them displayed! I also enjoyed peeking into the library which I never had the chance to do when my oldest went through the junior high. The pic above is one of my fave areas of the library/media center. There is also a computer lab off to one side and a reading room on the other.....good school libraries are always a fave with me!
- PRETTY POEM! I saw this online when I was googling images for autumn leaves with nature quotes. I LOVE this.....the poem is cute and the picture is so pretty.....autumn is a definite fave!
What about you? do you have some faves from your week??
And do you have weekend plans? The three of us are going out to the North Shore Boston area to stay for 2 nights. On Saturday morning we will have breakfast in Gloucester and then head over to the college to visit our oldest! I cannot wait to see her!! Skype and texting just doesn't cut it! Enjoy the long weekend, everyone!

Oh, Faith -- I meant to email you this week, but my week was wicked busy, too. Sounds like you would have been hard pressed to answer. So glad to hear work is going well, even if it's different.
Loved hearing about your daughter's artwork and her faith! And have GREAT fun seeing your oldest. Blessings on your week.
Back full-time would be an adujstment - I'm glad that you have the teaching position that you want and the extra salary - a real blessing! And yay for your dh - that help will make such a difference.
I love school libraries too - that was my job plus computer teacher. Good for your girl for witnessing to her schoolmates. It makes me think of one of my favourite verses - 3 John 1:4.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend visiting your girl! I love that area - we lived in Ipswich and South Hamilton for 3 years!
Oooh a new book to read...YAY! I'll have to check that out. And I will be praying for your new job position. It's wonderful that your family supports you and your husband is helpful. Gotta love that! I hope you have a great weekend!
Love that..."wicked busy" can describe my week, too. Congratulations on your full time work. It's nice that hubby is pitching in and helping out. Enjoy your visit!
So many nice things in your week.
I love that fall seems to be a running theme in this week's Fave 5.
I haven't worked full-time in so many years either, I don't know how I'd cope. Sounds like you are working things out though. I'm sure it will take a little time to adjust but then you'll be fine.
I'm also sure you are a blessing in your new position!
Yeah, I would say that you are super busy! That would be quite the adjustment but it sounds like a huge blessing as well.
Happy Autumn to you! I am definitely a fan of this season.
I think it's just a time of reorganization. I find it very normal that when both partners work full time they also have to share the household tasks. Try to keep one evening free to yourself, whatever may happen. That helps and you will see in a few weeks you will get used to your new life. Having more money is not bad either !!
I love autumn too and that poem and picture would make a cute print in a frame.
Sounds like your busy, busy but so nice of your hubby to pitch in. I know what it's like to work full time and any extra little bit of help just makes it a bit easier to breathe.
You've got to quite showing me all these interesting books for awhile until I get a bit caught up on my To Be Read list which you keep adding to. :v)
full time work outside home is a big adjustment, I'm sure. So good that your hubby is willing to step up and help out!
It is always heartwarming to know our children are proclaiming their faith outside of church/home. I'm sure that made your heart sing!
By now you all are home from your weekend trip. I hope it was a blessed and fun time.
The library/media center is awesome. I would love to do my studying in such a setting.
I can see why you were so glad to be at the open house. It is affirming to see our kiddos doing well in their faith walk with God.
So glad your new class is a better fit. I pray that the transition continues to go well.
Have a great week.
