Fall Challenge Book Review #4

Have you read The Weight of Silence?

This book is written by the same author.

It is just as good although I liked the story plot better in Weight of Silence.

This book was set in Iowa and revolved around 4 main characters:  Allison and Brynn (sisters, a year apart) and Claire, (married with an adopted little boy), and Charm (a nursing student who attended the same high school as the sisters).

This book is a super quick read.

It is suspenseful and "on the edge of your chair" gripping.  It is also a bit mysterious.

Summary of basic plot (taken from jacket cover):

Allison Glenn is just a teenager when she is sent to prison for a heinous crime.  She leaves a "perfect" reputation behind.  Her parents deny her existence and her sister refuses to speak with her.  Brynn has to face gossip and vicious bullying at the high school due to Allison's actions.  Shy, quiet Brynn carries most of the burden about what really happened that July night and all she really wants to do is to forget about Allison and the past that still haunts her.

Allison is released from prison after 5 years and has to live in a half-way house.  She is determined to reunite with her sister.

Their legacy of secrets is focused on a little boy.  If the truth is revealed, the consequences will be astounding for the adoptive parents who love him, the girl who tried to protect him and the 2 sisters who hold the key to all that is hidden.

What REALLY happened that July evening?  Is Allison really a killer??

And what does the quote "meet the world with hope in your heart" mean to you?? What does it mean to the 4 main characters??

What is the significance of the water in this book??

My thoughts:
excellent book. I highly recommend it and on a scale of 1-10 I rate this a 9.5!

The author really knows how to weave life issues into a story that is gripping and sobering.

I believe this book is appropriate for ages 17 and older.

There are a couple of "deep" issues running throughout this book:  mental health issues and the concept of Safe Haven. To learn more about the Safe Haven project, please go to your state's Department of Human Services or click here.

This completes 4 books from my Fall Into Reading Challenge 2011!  I am on a roll and what helped was all the driving we did on the North Shore (MA) this past weekend....if I wasn't the one driving, I was reading the book!  Here is a pic of the 4 of us and there will be more to follow in another post very soon about our mini-vacation in Gloucester, MA.

Oh...and I've just started the next small group parenting book:  it is amazing and I'll be sharing more on the meetings/info from the study in future posts.

Are you reading any good books???

And I can't believe you are working full time, that is a big change. The budget cuts are killing us here in Pa!
