New Year Resolutions.
So many people make more of them each winter.
I think of the "new year" as starting in September...probably because I have always been on a school schedule! Even when I was a full time stay at home mom, I was teaching piano from home, volunteering at a crisis center, and taking my preschool daughter to nursery school on a school schedule. When the 2nd daughter was born, I continued to be at home and worked part time and still considered the new year to begin when school did. I have always celebrated on New Year's Eve but..... I have never really made many resolutions....either in September OR January.
The calender says it is almost a "new" year. The next year, 2012, is one that many people have already decided needs to be better, more exciting, more fulfilling and more peaceful. I agree with all those resolutions and laugh at so many more I see on social networking sites (Facebook is the one I belong to). I have seen statements already this week about quitting smoking, cutting back on caffeine, working out more, losing more weight, sleeping less, sleeping more, being more organized, being a careful spender, growing more produce, making more money, saving more money, giving away more money to charities, reading more, spending more time with family and friends, re-doing more of the house. And the list goes on.
Rarely do I see anyone posting about spending more time in His Word.

Or spending more time with our Savior...the Lover of our souls.....

Rarely do I see something about spending time with loved ones "just because" or strengthening friendships that have gone by the wayside.....or what about forgiving those friends/acquaintances who wronged you....or what about being nice to the person who was jealous of something, and starting anew......or what about just showing more compassion to the body of Christ in general, and to the world....and even more importantly, treating our spouses the way we want to be treated....and our children.....showing grace and mercy to the friend who you feel betrayed you, or was dishonest with you, or just blew you off.....who doesn't keep in touch? What about more praying for these kinds of people in our lives.....praying for someone who wronged me is tough....but I do it because God commands it. And in doing so, it relieves me of the burden of their problem.....I can't take ownership for what their issues are.....but I can pray....do we tell ourselves to do more of this with the coming new year?

If I'm to choose a resolution for the year 2012, it would be to work out more, yes...not because I need to lose weight(according to my dr I don't need to) but because I want to be fit physically as I approach my mid-50's....I want to be as physically fit as I can be and in doing so, I want to work on being spiritually fit.........I want to work out more of my heart condition with Him.......
I want to work out more of my mind by being in His Word (the Bible). I want to be more at peace by walking more outside all year round....taking in all that our Creator has given to us in this glorious world we call Earth.

And even more importantly, I want to be more at peace with the One who brings everlasting Peace...the One with Whom I can walk with through this life journey......stepping outside with Him......surrounded by all His Glory......His Creation..........

Amen sister! Thank you for visiting my blog and wading into such controversial topics with me.
Also thank you for this excellent perspective on New Year's Resolutions. My heart gave a little jump when after that list of all the different types of resolutions, you noticed the absence of anyone committing to read more of the Word or spend more time with God. My single goal this year is to seek Him more, your post here has affirmed that.
I loved how you incorporated pictures into this of His glorious world and all the beauty he's given us. For some reason that picture of the mug all iced over made me smile! I take it you live in or near the Adirondacks? I grew up in Buffalo, NY, long ways away but did visit the ADKs a few times - such a peaceful, beautiful place!
Hi Little Women (I can't remember your first name...!) Yes we live near the foothills of the southern Adirondacks and very close to the eastern ADKs...about 40 minutes away..we are just south of the eastern edge near Saratoga Springs. I went to RWC for my undergrad degree so I know all about Buffalo..in fact one of my good friends from college still lives in Buffalo....the college was in Rochester but we did go to Buffalo a few times as well as Niagara of course! :) Buffalo gets alot more snow than out here near Albany!! I"m glad this post was an encouragement to you and affirmed your own resolution! :)
